Samara Weaving has begun preparing for her Emma Frost role, and she’s doing it in true comic-book-fan fashion. Following Marvel Studios‘ announcement of its new X-Men cast, the actress has already started digging into decades of source material.
Samara Weaving’s Emma Frost Post Sparks Speculation
Recently, the Ready or Not star Samara Weaving shared a photo of herself reading several X-Men comics on Instagram, hinting at how she’s preparing for her Emma Frost role. In the post, she captioned it,
“Don’t read into it.”
However, fans quickly did exactly that, since the comics she chose offer major clues about her take on the Emma Frost character.
For instance, the stack reportedly includes Astonishing X-Men, Emma Frost’s solo stories, and Hellfire Gala stories from the Krakoan era. Furthermore, Weaving shared a comic panel featuring Emma as a member of the Hellfire Club, which adds further fuel to speculation about the group’s potential role in the upcoming MCU movie.
Maya Boyd Addresses Her Casting as Storm

Director Jake Schreier Discusses His Vision for X-Men
At D23, director Jake Schreier discussed his approach to the new X-Men movie in detail. According to Schreier,
“One of the great things about the comics is that there is such a rich and broad history. That was one of the first things that Kevin and I talked about when I came in; they made many great movies in this world, and they’ve made so many great things. Let’s find the things that haven’t recently been done well.”
He then added,
“All these other corners of the universe, digging back into those comics like 20 years ago, the whole Chris Claremont run, the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold, to honour and to reach into, and then to meet this cast and try to do something new.”
Furthermore, Schreier emphasized the balance between honoring the source material and forging a new path, stating,
“I think you always want to see something that reveres where it came from,”
while also stressing that the movie will take a fresh approach.
Who Is Emma Frost in Marvel Comics?

In Marvel Comics, Emma Frost’s story is filled with dramatic shifts in loyalty. She began as one of the X-Men’s major enemies before eventually becoming an important ally and leader. Writers originally introduced her as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, and she possesses powerful telepathic abilities as a result.
Additionally, her secondary mutation allows her to transform into organic diamond, which gives her exceptional durability in battle. Because of her complex history, Emma also became one of Cyclops’ most significant romantic partners in the comics.
