Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious MCU theatrical releases yet. Moreover, the film continues Peter Parker’s cinematic journey. It also redefines how audiences experience superhero storytelling in theaters. As a result, anticipation continues to grow as new technical and creative details emerge about its production.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the ScreenX Innovation
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will make history as the first film designed specifically for the “Shot for ScreenX” presentation format. ScreenX expands the visual frame beyond the central screen and onto the side walls of the theater, delivering a 270-degree panoramic viewing experience.
Furthermore, this enhancement allows audiences to feel more physically present within the film’s world. Instead of watching action unfold in a single frame, extended visuals surround viewers and enhance scale, movement, and emotional intensity.
This innovation marks a major shift in how filmmakers design blockbuster films for theatrical exhibition.
How the Team Designed ScreenX for Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Previously, ScreenX films relied on post-production expansion, where additional side footage was created after principal photography had already been completed. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day changes this traditional workflow entirely.
For this project, additional ScreenX footage was filmed during production itself. Therefore, the film becomes the first Spider-Man installment — and one of the first major blockbusters — to be built with this format in mind from the very beginning.
Consequently, this approach ensures better visual alignment, smoother integration between central and side visuals, and a more consistent cinematic experience overall. It also reflects a growing trend in Hollywood toward format-specific filmmaking.

CJ 4DPLEX CEO Jun Bang described the project as a major evolution for the format. He stated:
“Shot for SCREENX represents an exciting evolution for our format.”
He further added:

“Our goal is to create a more encompassing experience that brings audiences closer to the story, the action, and the world of Spider-Man.”
Don Savant, CEO & President of CJ 4DPLEX Americas, also praised the collaboration:

ScreenX and IMAX Release Details
Sony Pictures and CJ 4DPLEX have also unveiled a new ScreenX poster for the film. Interestingly, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) was the first Spider-Man movie released in ScreenX format, making this upcoming installment a continuation of that premium exhibition legacy.
In addition, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also release in IMAX, giving audiences multiple high-end viewing options. This dual-format strategy highlights the studio’s focus on maximizing theatrical impact, especially at a time when premium formats are becoming increasingly important for blockbuster success.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026.
