A Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg reportedly almost gave fans another connection between Peter Parker and Matt Murdock.
Spider-Man’s Wallet Almost Featured Matt Murdock
Dixon revealed that the production team designed multiple cards that could appear inside Peter Parker’s wallet. One of them reportedly featured the name:
“Nelson Murdock Page: Attorneys At Law.”
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg would have immediately connected Peter to Matt Murdock, the lawyer better known as Daredevil. Although the card did not ultimately appear in the finished movie, its inclusion would have created a subtle connection to Peter’s previous MCU story.
The Daredevil Reference Would Have Made Sense
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg would have fit naturally into Peter’s history. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Matt Murdock briefly helped Peter after his identity became public. That connection made the idea of Peter keeping Murdock’s contact information particularly believable.
Even after Doctor Strange’s spell caused everyone to forget Peter Parker, Peter could still have retained the physical card. If he ever needed legal assistance again, Murdock’s information could have remained useful.
Other Cards Were Created for Peter
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg reference was reportedly not the only card designed for Peter’s wallet. Dixon also revealed other fictional cards, including references to Blumenthal Bagels and The Coffee Bean.
These details helped make Peter’s personal belongings feel more connected to the wider Spider-Man mythology. The Coffee Bean reference also reportedly served as a nod to classic Spider-Man comics from the 1960s and 1970s.
The Coffee Bean Has Comic Book History
The Coffee Bean carries a particularly interesting connection to Spider-Man’s comic history. The location appeared as a frequent hangout spot in classic Spider-Man stories. Therefore, including the reference in Peter’s wallet would have provided a small Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil Easter Egg for longtime fans.
Unlike the Murdock card, however, this reference did not directly connect Peter to another major MCU character.
Daredevil Does Not Appear in Brand New Day
Despite The Hand appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Daredevil himself does not appear in the movie. That makes the deleted Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg even more interesting. The Murdock card could have provided a subtle connection without requiring Matt to appear on screen.
For fans hoping to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil interact with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man again, the deleted detail represents a missed opportunity.
Rosario Dawson’s Daredevil Connection Was Also Cut
The Murdock card reportedly wasn’t the only Daredevil-related connection removed from the movie. Rosario Dawson, who played Claire Temple in Marvel’s Netflix-era Defender shows, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Dawson later confirmed that her role did not remain in the final cut. Her character’s intended storyline remains unclear.
Could Claire Temple Have Helped Peter?
Claire’s removal generated additional speculation among Marvel fans. Some theories suggested that she could have played a role in protecting Peter or helping him during a hospital sequence involving The Punisher. However, there is currently no confirmation about what Claire’s planned role actually involved.
Likewise, there is no confirmed evidence that her scenes directly connected to Daredevil or Peter’s relationship with Matt Murdock.
The Hand’s Presence Makes the Connection More Interesting
The presence of The Hand in Brand New Day makes the missing Daredevil connections particularly notable. The organization has strong ties to Daredevil’s corner of the Marvel universe. Therefore, fans naturally expected the movie to contain more direct connections to Matt Murdock. Instead, the movie reportedly kept those links largely in the background. The deleted card could have provided one of the clearest references to Peter and Daredevil’s previous encounter.
Marvel Has a History of Cutting Easter Eggs
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg also demonstrates how many small details can change between production and release. Filmmakers often create props, dialogue, and background references that never make the final edit. Some details simply don’t fit the finished story, while others may disappear because of pacing or creative changes. Peter’s wallet appears to have been one of those cases.
A Small Detail With a Bigger Meaning
The Murdock card may have been a tiny prop, but it could have carried significant meaning. Peter’s relationship with Matt Murdock represents one of the more interesting connections between Spider-Man’s street-level world and the wider MCU. After No Way Home, the two characters already had a shared history. Keeping Murdock’s card could have acknowledged that history without requiring a major subplot.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Missing Daredevil Easter Egg
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Daredevil easter egg may never appear on screen, but its reported existence gives fans another glimpse at what the movie could have included. Peter’s wallet apparently contained a card referencing Nelson Murdock Page: Attorneys At Law, creating a subtle callback to No Way Home. Rosario Dawson’s deleted Claire Temple role adds another layer to the story.
While neither detail confirms a larger Daredevil storyline, both suggest that Marvel considered stronger connections between Peter Parker and the street-level side of the MCU before ultimately cutting them from the finished movie.
