Marvel Studios has just thrilled fans with an early release update. Eyes of Wakanda, the highly anticipated animated Black Panther prequel series, will now debut on Disney+ on August 1, 2025. That’s a full three-and-a-half weeks earlier than the original release date of August 27.
Eyes of Wakanda Lets Fans Binge All Four Episodes
Unlike previous Marvel animated shows, Eyes of Wakanda will drop all four episodes on the same day. Each episode will be 30 minutes long, allowing fans to enjoy two hours of uninterrupted Wakandan storytelling.
This binge-release strategy, in contrast, marks a notable shift from Marvel’s usual weekly rollout seen in shows like What If…? and X-Men ’97. Clearly, with this bold move, Marvel is signaling strong confidence in this title.
Eyes of Wakanda Is Canon to the MCU Timeline
Another exciting aspect of Eyes of Wakanda is that it’s officially canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Set on the sacred timeline, the story contributes directly to the overarching MCU narrative.
The plot follows the Hatut Zaraze, a covert team of Wakandan warriors tasked with recovering Vibranium artifacts from around the world. Their missions reveal how Wakanda has secretly shaped global history across generations.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Brings Wakanda to Life
The voice cast, furthermore, includes a powerful and diverse lineup: Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Lynn Whitfield, Jona Xiao, and Anika Noni Rose. Together, they bring both emotional depth and dynamic energy to the series.
In an interview, Jona Xiao expressed her enthusiasm:
“The show is much more than just an expansion. It’s like this in-depth exploration of, like, the secrets and the history of Wakanda. You actually get to see how Wakanda secretly shapes world history, which is really cool, through the Hatut Zaraze. If you like the Dora Milaje, you’ll love this group of covert warriors.”
The series was developed by Ryan Coogler, best known for directing Black Panther. In addition, he serves as an executive producer alongside Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Kalia King, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt. With so many seasoned creatives behind the scenes, it’s no surprise that expectations for this series are sky-high.
Why This Series Is More Than Just a Spin-Off
With a strong focus on lore, newly introduced characters, and rich cultural depth, Eyes of Wakanda truly stands apart. Not only is it a prequel, but it’s also a bold expansion of the Wakandan mythos. Furthermore, it offers fans a fresh and compelling way to connect more deeply with the larger MCU narrative.
So, don’t miss it—Eyes of Wakanda begins streaming August 1, 2025, only on Disney+
