Currently starring as Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Vanessa Kirby has also expressed a strong interest in eventually exploring her character’s darker side—Malice—in future MCU films.
Vanessa Kirby Says She’s “Dying to Do Malice”
While speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Vanessa Kirby enthusiastically opened up about her excitement to eventually portray Malice, the corrupted alter ego of Sue Storm.
“I’m dying to do Malice. I just love that that’s a part of her. It just makes me so happy,”
Kirby said.
She also reflected on a deleted scene from First Steps, where Sue Storm confronts Paul Walter Hauser’s Harvey Elder (aka Mole Man). That moment, she said, allowed her to channel Sue’s deeper emotional layers.
“It underscored that she has a real shadow side,” she explained.”
Kirby added that Malice represents “a part of her that needs to come out… while she is committed to doing good, she also has a shadow side, like we all do.”
Malice Represents a Deeper Side of Vanessa Kirby’s Character
In Marvel Comics, Malice first emerges when the villain Psycho-Man manipulates Sue’s emotions. As a result, she transforms into a rage-filled version of herself. Over the years, fans have come to recognize this version of the character for her intensity and psychological depth.
Later in a conversation with Variety, Kirby once again reiterated her strong connection to this storyline.
“There’s something about meeting the hardest parts of yourself in Malice that felt extremely poignant to me,” she said.
“I’m really hopeful I might be allowed to be Malice at some point for her.”
What Could Malice Mean for the MCU?
Although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any Malice-related storyline, Vanessa Kirby’s passion has certainly piqued fan interest. If explored on-screen, Malice could bring a dramatic emotional twist to the character of Sue Storm.
With The Fantastic Four: First Steps currently playing in theaters, fans are just beginning to see Kirby’s take on the iconic role. However, diving into Sue’s darker persona could elevate her arc to new, compelling heights.
Whether as part of a sequel or multiverse storyline, Kirby’s desire to portray Malice makes one thing clear: she’s ready to take Sue Storm into unexplored—and thrilling—territory.
