J.K. Simmons Finally Responds to Brand New Day Speculation
J.K. Simmons has now responded to the ongoing rumors about his possible appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The actor, who became widely recognized for playing J. Jonah Jameson, confirmed that he will not be part of the upcoming MCU movie. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Simmons directly addressed the speculation surrounding his return.
He said:
“Not in it, dude. I don’t know who on the internet decided that that was [a] fact, but I ain’t in it.”
Simmons’ comments provide clarity on the recent speculation surrounding his involvement in the movie. While many fans were curious about his possible return, the actor shared an update about his connection with the upcoming adventure.
J.K. Simmons Previously Returned as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man Movies
Before addressing the Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumors, Simmons had already made a memorable return as J. Jonah Jameson in the MCU.
The actor first became famous for portraying the character in the original film trilogy. Years later, he reprised the role in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home, bringing the iconic Daily Bugle personality back to the big screen.
In the MCU, Jameson appeared as the host of TheDailyBugle.net and continued his mission of portraying the web-slinging hero as a threat. His biggest moment came in Spider-Man: Far From Home, when he revealed Peter Parker’s identity to the world.
However, the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home changed Peter Parker’s life completely. After Doctor Strange’s spell, everyone forgot Peter Parker, leaving his relationships and connections behind.
J. Jonah Jameson’s Marvel Comics Connection to Scorpion
J. Jonah Jameson’s history with the web-slinging hero goes beyond the movies and includes several important comic book storylines.
In Marvel Comics, Jameson played a major role in the creation of Scorpion. He funded the experiment that transformed Mac Gargan into the supervillain, creating one of Spider-Man’s most notable enemies.
This connection has made Jameson an important figure in Spider-Man’s larger mythology. Although the character has a strong comic book history, Simmons’ latest comments confirm that he will not appear in the upcoming movie.
J.K. Simmons Reflects on His Experience
J.K. Simmons also reflected on his experience portraying J. Jonah Jameson across multiple live-action adaptations of the iconic Marvel character.
The actor explained that most of his on-screen interactions were with Tobey Maguire’s version of the character rather than Tom Holland’s. Simmons also revealed that he has never actually met Holland, despite both being part of the same MCU franchise.
He said:
“Well, I only really appeared on screen with Tobey [Maguire]. Even people in the industry, in the media are taken aback when I say I have never met Tom Holland. Even at whatever the last premiere that I went to, we just didn’t happen to cross paths.”
Simmons also expressed his appreciation for the different eras of the franchise. He praised Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and the rest of the cast for their work on the original trilogy, while acknowledging the lasting impact those films had on audiences.
He said:
“So obviously I have great affection for what Sam [Raimi] and Tobey and I and the gang did, Kirsten [Dunst], everybody in those films, and my participation in the latest iteration is much more limited. But having said that, I love what Jon [Watts] is doing with it too, and I love the way that they have kept it fresh without completely losing what made Spider-Man appealing in the first place.”
