The Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team could reportedly look very different from the superhero groups fans have seen in previous MCU movies.
A new rumour has sparked discussion about a possible lineup featuring several major Marvel heroes, including one character who could bring the X-Men directly into the heart of the Multiverse Saga.
However, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the rumored team, so the details should be treated cautiously.
A Surprising Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man Team
According to a report from James Mack’s Patreon, Spider-Man could reportedly join an unusual group of heroes in Avengers: Secret Wars.
The alleged lineup includes:
- Spider-Man
- Captain Marvel
- Reed Richards
- Black Panther
- Thor
- Vision
- Sam Wilson’s Captain America
- Jean Grey
If accurate, the Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man Team would bring together heroes from several different corners of the Marvel universe.
The reported inclusion of Jean Grey, however, may be the biggest surprise.
Jean Grey Could Join Spider-Man
Jean Grey’s reported presence could have major implications for the Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team. The character would represent a significant connection between the Avengers and the X-Men, particularly as Marvel Studios prepares its standalone X-Men movie.
If Jean does appear alongside Spider-Man and the other heroes, Marvel could use the event to establish a much stronger connection between its mutant characters and the wider MCU. For now, though, Jean’s involvement remains unconfirmed.
Spider-Man Could Fight Alongside New Allies
Spider-Man has already played a major MCU role. The rumored Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team would pair him with heroes he has rarely interacted with. The alleged group includes Reed Richards, Captain Marvel, Thor, Black Panther, Vision, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America.
That combination could create interesting character dynamics. Peter Parker sits beside heroes with far greater experience. These veterans regularly confront universe-level threats. The lineup could also suggest that Marvel is assembling a team specifically designed to confront the massive threat posed by Doctor Doom.
Marvel Has Not Confirmed the Team
The reported Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team remains unofficial. Marvel Studios has not announced the film’s complete cast or revealed which heroes will form its central team. James Mack’s report should therefore be treated as a rumour rather than confirmed information.
Marvel is expected to keep major story details secret for as long as possible, particularly because Secret Wars could dramatically reshape the MCU.
Kevin Feige Explains Marvel’s Approach
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously discussed how the original Secret Wars comics could influence the MCU’s version of the story. Feige said:
“They invent something entirely new, seamlessly picking up where the old universe left off, but branching out in all-new, all-different directions.”
He also explained how Marvel approaches its comic-book adaptations:
“We pick and choose from Marvel’s rich, nearly 90-year comics history and make movies that honour the source but become something entirely different.”
Feige added:
“That cycle continues as we head toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s own version of Secret Wars.”
His comments suggest that Marvel intends to draw heavily from the comics while creating its own interpretation of the massive storyline.
Doctor Doom Remains the Biggest Threat
While the rumored Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team is generating attention, Doctor Doom remains at the center of Marvel’s plans for the movie. Feige previously described Doom as the “centrepiece” of Secret Wars. Discussing the character, Feige said:
“On one hand, [Doom is] noble and loyal. He’s true to his word. But he’s also a monster.”
Feige also explained that Doom:
“seeks power over all things”
and will use whatever means necessary to achieve his goals.
The Marvel Studios president went even further, stating:
“there is no Secret Wars without Doom.”
Robert Downey Jr. will portray Doctor Doom after previously playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU.
Could Jean Grey Change the Multiverse Saga?
If Jean Grey really joins the Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team, her appearance could be much more important than a simple cameo. Marvel is already moving toward a new era for the X-Men, and Secret Wars could provide an opportunity to bring mutant characters into the MCU’s biggest storyline.
Jean is also one of the most powerful characters in X-Men history, making her a potentially valuable addition to a team facing Doctor Doom. However, Marvel has not revealed how the X-Men will factor into the movie.
Spider-Man’s Role Could Be Important
Spider-Man’s potential involvement also raises questions about his future in the MCU. Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker’s life changed dramatically, leaving his next chapter largely open. An appearance in Secret Wars could give Marvel an opportunity to bring Spider-Man into a much larger multiverse conflict.
It could also place him alongside characters from different realities, fitting perfectly with the movie’s expected multiversal scope.
When Will Avengers: Secret Wars Release?
Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027. Marvel still has plenty of time to reveal additional casting and story details before the movie reaches theaters.
For now, the Avengers: Secret Wars Spider-Man team remains a rumour. If the reported lineup proves accurate, however, Spider-Man fighting alongside Jean Grey could signal a major step toward bringing the X-Men and the wider MCU together.
