Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may finally see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 5 face off against a fan-favorite villain in an upcoming installment. Marvel hasn’t officially revealed the main antagonist for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, Michael Mando will reprise his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, whom fans first saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
Destin Daniel Cretton directs the film, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers handling the screenplay. Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon return to their roles. Could Kingpin Appear in Spider-Man 5?
Since Vincent D’Onofrio officially joined the MCU as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, fans have eagerly anticipated a showdown between Spider-Man and the iconic crime lord. Kingpin won’t appear in the main cast of Brand New Day. However, industry insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus reports that the studios may include a mid- or post-credit tease leading into Spider-Man 5.
“The plan with Kingpin is to have him face off against Spider-Man, which hasn’t changed. And for Brand New Day, it’s possible we could see a mid-credit or post-credit scene that would tease an upcoming bout against them,” Perez explained.
This strategic tease could build anticipation for what may be one of the most memorable villain showdowns in the MCU.
Legal Hurdles Behind Kingpin’s MCU Appearance
D’Onofrio has previously explained that Kingpin’s appearance in films is complicated due to Sony Pictures owning the character’s film rights:
“It’s a very hard thing to do for Marvel to use my character. It’s a very hard thing to do because of ownership and stuff. Right now, I’m only usable for television series, different kinds of series, whatever it is, but not even a one-off Fisk movie or anything like that. It’s all caught up in rights and stuff.”
