Sony Cancels A Spider-Man Spin-off Movie from Development!

Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man Universe (SSMU) has been a subject of intrigue and anticipation for fans of the web-slinger’s extended cinematic world. While some projects have flourished, others seem to have taken a different turn. One entry, in particular, has seen a shift in its development status.

The Silver Sable Saga:

Initially envisioned as a collaborative venture between the enigmatic Black Cat and the high-tech mercenary Silver Sable, the Silver Sable movie underwent a transformation in 2018, dividing into two distinct projects. Since then, updates on both the Silver Sable and Black Cat solo films have been scarce, with minimal remarks from the screenwriter of the former in 2020 indicating a lack of progress.

Lindsey Anderson Beer, the scribe behind Silver Sable, recently shed light on the current state of the long-awaited solo film. According to Beer, Sony is no longer actively developing Silver Sable, stating, “It was something that Sony was looking at and then, as far as I know, is not currently developing.” She explained her role as a ‘weekly’ writer, brought on to assist the project at a specific juncture.

What’s Still on Track:

While Silver Sable may have been set aside for now, the SSMU has a roster of exciting films in the pipeline:

  1. Madame Web:
Dakota Johnson, under the direction of S.J. Clarkson, is set to grace screens on February 16, 2024, in this enigmatic tale.
  1. Venom 3:
Fans can look forward to Tom Hardy reprising his role as Eddie Brock in this eagerly awaited sequel, hitting theaters in July of 2024.
  1. Kraven the Hunter:
Led by Aaron Taylor Johnson, this action-packed thriller was originally slated for release in October but has been rescheduled due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, now set to debut in August.
  1. Olivia Wilde’s Project:
Helmed by Olivia Wilde, this Spider-Man-themed film is rumored to revolve around Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman. As of December 2022, Wilde remains attached to the project, adding to the excitement.
  1. Hypno-Hustler:
This film promises a fresh take on an obscure Spidey villain, with superstar Donald Glover taking on the lead role.
  1. El Muerto:
Unfortunately, the Bad Bunny vehicle, El Muerto, has been cancelled. The film, centered around a super-powered wrestler from the comic books, will not see the light of day.

While the fate of Silver Sable may be uncertain at present, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe remains vibrant and dynamic. With an array of films in various stages of development, there’s no shortage of excitement for fans eager to explore new corners of this captivating cinematic universe. Stay tuned for more updates on the thrilling adventures that await in the SSMU!
