Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime May Reveal the Bonus Footage
According to the reported Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime, the standard re-release will run for 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 9 seconds. However, the IMAX and Infinity Vision versions will reportedly have a slightly longer runtime. They will run for 3 hours, 6 minutes, and 9 seconds.
For comparison, the original Avengers: Endgame has a runtime of 3 hours, 1 minute, and 11 seconds. That means the standard version would contain approximately 1 minute and 58 seconds of additional footage. The difference becomes more interesting with premium screenings.
IMAX Could Include an Avengers: Doomsday Sneak Peek
The Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime reportedly gives IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings an additional three minutes beyond the standard version. The extra material reportedly includes an Avengers: Doomsday sneak peek.
If the reported runtimes are accurate, premium screenings could therefore contain 4 minutes and 58 seconds of new material compared with the original theatrical cut. That would make the Doomsday preview a major part of the Encore experience.
How Does Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime Compare to the 2019 Re-Release?
Marvel previously brought Avengers: Endgame back to theaters in 2019 with additional material. That version included a message from Anthony Russo, an unfinished deleted Smart Hulk scene, a Stan Lee tribute, and a Spider-Man: Far From Home sneak peek.
The 2019 re-release added around 6 minutes and 20 seconds overall. However, many fans were disappointed by the unfinished deleted scene. The upcoming version appears to be taking a different approach.
Unlike the 2019 re-release, Encore will also be available on Disney+. That means the bonus scenes will reportedly become part of the new version of Endgame rather than remaining exclusive to theaters.
Steve Rogers Could Be Part of the New Footage
The Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime leaves Marvel with limited space for additional story material. One possibility is that the new footage could focus on Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.
Steve has an important connection to Avengers: Doomsday, while Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom adds another major link between the two characters and their respective MCU histories.
However, fans should not expect a lengthy continuation of Steve’s post-Endgame journey. His decision to return the Infinity Stones and reunite with Peggy Carter is expected to become relevant again in Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Has Limited Time to Tell a New Story
The Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime reportedly gives Marvel less than two minutes of additional story footage in the standard version. That means the studio will need to use the available time carefully. Rather than adding an extended deleted scene, Marvel could use the footage to create a direct connection between Endgame and Avengers: Doomsday.
The additional Doomsday preview could also give audiences an early look at what awaits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when the next major Avengers movie arrives. For now, the reported runtime remains unconfirmed. Still, if the numbers are accurate, the Avengers: Endgame Encore Runtime suggests that Marvel is keeping the new material focused rather than significantly expanding the 2019 film.
Avengers: Endgame: Encore returns to theaters on September 25.
