Black Panther TV Series!

Marvel Studios Introduces 6th Black Panther in the MCU Timeline!

The MCU just introduced its sixth Black Panther in Disney+’s Eyes of Wakanda. Many Marvel mantles have passed down from hero to hero, but few as frequently or meaningfully as Wakanda’s Black Panther. The title is traditionally held by the ruler of Wakanda — a member of the royal family, empowered by the mystical heart-shaped herb and sworn to protect the African nation.

Significantly, this latest addition suddenly continues the legacy, emerging from an animated story set in the distant future. As a result, it expands the MCU’s timeline and further explores new dimensions of Wakanda’s past and future. Moreover, by connecting past ideologies with future struggles, it deepens the narrative impact of the Black Panther mantle.

All 6 Black Panthers in the MCU So Far

Beyond just a superhero title, this mantle represents tradition, leadership, and responsibility. Over the years, through both live-action and animation, six individuals have taken up the role in the MCU. In addition, each new Panther has brought their unique perspective and challenges, further shaping the evolving legacy of Wakanda.

Bashenga – The First Black Panther

Black Panther

Around 8000 B.C., Bashenga became the first Black Panther, chosen by the goddess Bast to unite Wakanda’s tribes. As such, he served as the nation’s original protector and established the Panther legacy. Initially mentioned in Black Panther and later depicted in Eyes of Wakanda, his story marks the beginning of Wakanda’s heroic lineage.

T’Chaka – King Before T’Challa

Black Panther

Ruling in the 20th and early 21st centuries, T’Chaka led Wakanda through its era of isolation. Introduced in Captain America: Civil War, he was killed in a UN bombing orchestrated by Zemo, setting T’Challa’s journey in motion.

T’Challa – The Original MCU Black Panther

Black Panther

Introduced in Captain America: Civil War and portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, T’Challa became the definitive Black Panther of the 21st century. As king, he opened Wakanda to the world and defended it against threats ranging from Killmonger to Thanos.

Killmonger – Brief Holder of the Mantle

Black Panther

Portrayed by Michael B. Jordan, Killmonger debuted in Black Panther as a radical challenger to Wakanda’s throne. In the 21st century, he defeated T’Challa in ritual combat and briefly held the mantle, intending to use Wakanda’s power to liberate oppressed people worldwide.

Shuri – The Current Black Panther

Black Panther

In the 21st century, Shuri reluctantly embraced the mantle following Queen Ramonda’s death. Introduced as the new Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and portrayed by Letitia Wright, she rebuilt the heart-shaped herb and began forging a legacy of her own.

The Last Panther – New Animated Hero

Black Panther

Set in the 24th century, The Last Panther is a queen from a devastated future Wakanda. Notably, she is voiced by Anika Noni Rose and debuts in Eyes of Wakanda, Episode 4. Calling herself “The Last Panther,” she travels back in time to save her world, ultimately reflecting themes of justice and legacy seen in Killmonger’s story.

What are the Eyes of Wakanda?

Currently streaming on Disney+, Eyes of Wakanda is an animated anthology series that explores untold chapters of Wakandan history. Throughout the episodes, it follows elite warriors as they journey across time to recover vibranium artifacts scattered around the globe.

In addition, this series not only adds depth to the legacy but also introduces new characters, including a sixth mantle bearer. Together, these elements offer a broader vision of Wakanda’s impact throughout history and across timelines.

What’s Next for the Black Panther Legacy?

Looking ahead, the future of Wakanda continues to evolve. Notably, Shuri is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), signaling her ongoing role in the MCU. Furthermore, fans speculate that more successors may emerge in upcoming stories, including:

  • More episodes of Eyes of Wakanda
  • A rumored Young T’Challa (Son of T’Challa) project
  • A potential appearance in Secret Wars

Moreover, with Secret Wars exploring the multiverse, there’s a strong chance we could see alternate versions of the character. Consequently, this opens the door for legacy heroes or entirely new interpretations, ultimately further enriching the franchise. In addition, these multiversal versions could offer fresh perspectives on Wakandan values, power dynamics, and cultural identity.
