MCU's X-Men

MCU’s X-Men Movie Update Sparks Concern — But There’s a Bigger Reason Not to Worry!

The upcoming MCU’s X-Men movie has sparked concern among fans after reports revealed that the script is currently undergoing rewrites. However, while some fans see this as a warning sign, there are actually several reasons why this update could be very positive for Marvel Studios’ long-term plans.

Importantly, rewrites are extremely common in large-scale blockbuster productions. In fact, this same creative process helped shape some of the MCU’s strongest recent projects. Therefore, rather than signaling trouble, the update may indicate that Marvel Studios is carefully crafting one of its most important films yet.

MCU’s X-Men Script Rewrites Raise Fan Concerns

According to recent reports, Marvel Studios is actively working on new drafts for the MCU’s X-Men movie. Originally, Michael Lesslie was hired in May 2024 to write the screenplay. However, the project evolved after Jake Schreier — known for directing Thunderbolts — joined the film in July 2025.

Now, Marvel has brought in two additional writers, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, to work on a new draft. These additions suggest the MCU’s X-Men script is being refined further. Although some fans worry about multiple writers, this approach often leads to stronger storytelling and improved character development. Additionally, Marvel Studios frequently uses multiple writers to ensure films align with the larger MCU storyline, especially when introducing major franchises like the X-Men.

Thunderbolts Shows Why Fans Shouldn’t Worry

Interestingly, a very similar situation happened with Thunderbolts. Initially, Eric Pearson wrote the script. Later, Schreier joined as director, and both Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo contributed rewrites. Ultimately, the result was a critically well-received MCU film, which suggests that this collaborative process can work extremely well.

Because of this, the same team dynamic for MCU’s X-Men may actually be a major advantage rather than a problem. Moreover, Marvel Studios has increasingly relied on collaborative storytelling to build stronger ensemble films. Since X-Men stories traditionally focus on team dynamics and multiple character arcs, this approach could be especially beneficial.

Proven Creative Team Behind MCU’s X-Men

Another encouraging detail is that Schreier, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo already share a strong working relationship. They previously collaborated on the Netflix series Beef, which received critical acclaim.

Additionally, Joanna Calo currently serves as co-showrunner for FX’s hit series The Bear. Her experience with character-driven storytelling and ensemble casts could be particularly valuable for an X-Men film.

Furthermore, Lee Sung Jin’s writing style often focuses on emotionally layered characters, which aligns perfectly with classic X-Men themes like identity, acceptance, and conflict.

MCU’s X-Men Expected After Avengers Secret Wars

At the moment, MCU’s X-Men does not have an official release date. However, reports suggest the film will likely arrive after Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). This timeline indicates that Marvel Studios is carefully positioning the X-Men as a major post-Secret Wars storyline.

As a result, the additional development time could allow Marvel to properly introduce mutants into the MCU in a more meaningful and impactful way. Considering how important the X-Men are to the future of the franchise, this extended timeline may ultimately help Marvel build a stronger foundation for the next era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While script rewrites can sometimes worry fans, the context here suggests a more positive outlook. The MCU’s X-Men project appears to benefit from a proven creative team, strong collaboration, additional development time, and careful post-Secret Wars positioning.

As a result, this update may signal that Marvel Studios is taking extra care to deliver a strong and impactful introduction for the X-Men.
