Marvel Studios might have quietly revealed what their secret 2028 MCU movie is. According to a recent insider report, the long-delayed Blade reboot is back in active development. It now looks likely to take the February 2028 release slot. This could finally mark the return of Mahershala Ali’s Daywalker, nearly a decade after the film was first announced.
Blade’s Return Could Be the Secret 2028 MCU Movie
On the July 24, 2025 episode of The Hot Mic podcast, industry insider Jeff Sneider responded to a fan question about the status of Blade. His answer gave fans a reason to hope that the film is not only alive—but now a top priority for Marvel Studios.
Q: “Do we have any idea of when ‘Blade’ will shoot?”
A: “Yea, I could see it shooting maybe second half of next year or early 2027. I do think it is real. I think it’s a priority.”
Based on that timeline, Blade could be ready for a theatrical release in early 2028. That lines up perfectly with one of Marvel’s currently untitled release dates—and many now believe this is the secret MCU movie slot.
Timeline Aligns for a Blade Release
Marvel currently has two unclaimed dates on its slate: July 2027 and February 2028. Reports suggest that Doctor Strange 3 will take the July 2027 slot, bridging the gap to Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027. That leaves February 2028 open—and Blade is now the most likely candidate for this mystery MCU movie.
Blade’s Long Development Struggle
Originally announced in 2019, the Blade reboot has faced years of complications. These include multiple delays, several changes in writers and directors, and even a brief removal from the official MCU slate. Despite all that, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently reaffirmed that the movie remains a top priority and that it will take place in the modern day, rather than a historical setting.
Mahershala Ali Anchors the Upcoming MCU Movie
Through all the chaos, Mahershala Ali has stayed committed to the project. He’s repeatedly voiced his excitement about the role, though he’s also hinted that Marvel needs to move faster.
“He is excited to play the character whenever Marvel is ready, [but] his tune may change if this goes on too long.”
As it stands, Ali remains the one constant attached to this MCU movie, and Marvel now appears motivated to finally bring his version of Blade to the big screen.
What Other MCU Movies Could Fill the Gaps?
Besides Blade and Doctor Strange 3, there are a few other contenders for Marvel’s 2027–2028 slots. These include Shang-Chi 2, Black Panther 3, and the long-rumored Midnight Suns team-up.
Some fans previously speculated that Blade might appear as part of Midnight Suns. However, recent insider comments suggest that Marvel is sticking to its plan for a solo Blade film.
After years of uncertainty, Blade’s reboot may finally be real. If Marvel Studios begins production in late 2026 or early 2027, then a 2028 release isn’t just possible—it’s likely. Additionally, the film now has a fresh direction. Meanwhile, Mahershala Ali remains committed to the project. With that in mind, and given Marvel’s renewed urgency, Blade could finally become the secret 2028 MCU movie fans have been waiting for.
