The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to surprise fans with unexpected casting stories, even after a movie reaches theaters. This time, a familiar Marvel actress has revealed that she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the scene did not make the final version of the film. Many viewers hoped to see more Defenders Saga characters return. Now, her latest comments confirm that Marvel Studios ultimately cut at least one planned appearance.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Almost Featured Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple
During an appearance at GalaxyCon, Rosario Dawson revealed that she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, Marvel Studios ultimately removed the sequence before the movie’s release.
Speaking to fans, Dawson said:
“I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.”
Dawson is best known for playing Claire Temple in Marvel’s Netflix-era Defenders Saga. She appeared in 32 episodes across several series. During that time, she became one of the franchise’s most recognizable supporting characters. She also connected many of Marvel’s street-level heroes.
Claire Temple first appeared in Daredevil before returning in Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and Jessica Jones.
Earlier Rumors Suggested Claire Temple Would Return
Interestingly, Dawson’s comments match an earlier report from insider DanielRPK. According to that report, Claire Temple was expected to appear briefly to treat an injured hero during Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Although Marvel Studios never confirmed the cameo, Dawson’s latest revelation strongly suggests that the reported scene was genuine. Nevertheless, the filmmakers decided to remove it during the editing process.
As a result, fans never got to see Claire Temple’s MCU return.
The MCU Continues Bringing Defenders Saga Characters Back
Even though Claire Temple’s appearance was cut, Marvel Studios has steadily reintroduced characters from the Defenders Saga into the MCU.
Most notably, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil officially returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home before making additional appearances in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Since then, many fans have expected even more Netflix-era heroes and supporting characters to join the MCU’s street-level stories.
Because Spider-Man: Brand New Day focuses on Peter Parker operating alone in New York City, many believed it would be the perfect opportunity for familiar faces like Claire Temple to return.
Unfortunately, that reunion did not make the final cut.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Follows Peter Parker’s New Beginning
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker continues his journey after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. With those closest to him having moved on from their memories of Peter, he must learn to live a lonely life while continuing his responsibilities as Spider-Man.
The film explores Peter’s struggle to balance isolation with his commitment to protecting New York, creating a more grounded, street-level adventure.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters following its release on July 31, 2026.
Although Rosario Dawson’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day cameo never reached audiences, her comments confirm that Marvel Studios seriously considered bringing Claire Temple back. Therefore, fans can remain hopeful that the beloved character could still return in a future MCU project, especially as Marvel continues reconnecting its Netflix-era heroes with the wider cinematic universe.
