Jon Bernthal is officially back as the Punisher, and this time he’s bringing a striking new look. A recently leaked set photo offers fans their first glimpse at his updated appearance for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ Special Presentation. In the image, Frank Castle sports a rugged full beard and a brand-new tactical suit, hinting at a more grounded and hardened take on the character.
First Look at the New Punisher Suit
Originally shared by photographer Steve Sands via Instagram Stories, the photo has quickly ignited excitement among Marvel fans. Moreover, the new tactical suit looks more armored and intense than before. This visual upgrade reinforces the idea that Castle has evolved, both physically and emotionally, since his last appearance.
The Creative Team Behind the Story
Interestingly, Jon Bernthal isn’t just starring—he also helped craft the story. He co-wrote the script alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green, best known for acclaimed projects like King Richard, We Own This City, and Bob Marley: One Love. Their creative partnership hints at a character-driven story that goes beyond mere action and violence.
Returning Faces and What to Expect for the Punisher
So far, only a few cast members have been confirmed. Jason R. Moore returns as Curtis, and Roe Rancell will also appear. These returning characters suggest a continuation of the legacy built during The Punisher series on Netflix, which ran from 2017 to 2019.
Of course, fans remember Bernthal’s debut as Frank Castle in Daredevil Season 2 (2016). After a six-year break, he returned in Daredevil: Born Again (2025), reconnecting the character to the MCU in a big way.
The Punisher’s Expanding Role in the MCU
Looking ahead, Frank Castle’s journey is far from over. The Punisher will also appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), alongside several key characters:
- Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man
- Michael Mando as Mac Gargan / Scorpion
- Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk
This combination promises a bold crossover and potential conflict that fans have long anticipated.
While Marvel hasn’t confirmed an exact release date, the special is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2026. With its new tone, returning characters, and a bearded Frank Castle ready for battle, the upcoming Punisher special may deliver one of the MCU’s most intense stories yet.
