James Gunn Debunks a Guardians of the Galaxy Rumor!

Recently, James Gunn has addressed a viral rumor surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy. Moreover, Gunn, known for directing all three Marvel Studios films in the franchise, clarified misconceptions about a specific scene. Specifically, the scene involved Michael Rooker’s Yondu, Sean Gunn’s Kraglin, and Christopher Fairbank’s Broker character.

In particular, Gunn’s work on the Guardians films helped define the tone of the Marvel cosmic universe. Additionally, he expertly blended humor, heart, and action in a way that resonated with audiences worldwide. As a result, his unique storytelling style and ability to bring out memorable performances have made these films some of Marvel’s most beloved entries.

What James Gunn Said About the Rumor

On Threads, Gunn responded to claims that Rooker went off-script and improvised multiple lines, causing Gunn to break character. He stated:

“Nope. Both Yondu’s mocking and Kraglin suppressing a smile were scripted.”

Furthermore, Gunn explained the technical reason behind a closeup shot of Sean Gunn:

“But what is true is I shot the closeup of Sean in pickups because I didn’t grab one on the day and I needed a cutaway. So he was actually in front of a blue screen for that shot and we comped in an empty plate of the background from the day. So, yeah, hardly ‘breaking character.’ When you hear about ‘reshoots’ these are usually the types of things my team is doing.”

When asked if actors ever truly break character while filming, Gunn admitted:

“All the time. We ruined takes laughing in Peacemaker nearly every day. But as far as I can remember I’ve never put it in a movie or show!”

These insights offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at how carefully orchestrated scenes are on set, highlighting the collaboration and planning that goes into making each film memorable.

All Guardians of the Galaxy Movies Available on Disney+

While fans enjoy Gunn’s Marvel work, he is now focused on the DC Universe. Gunn is working on Man of Tomorrow, a follow-up to 2025’s Superman, set to release in United States theaters in July 2027. As a result, fans can look forward to seeing Gunn’s creative vision move from Marvel to DC. He will blend his signature storytelling with iconic superhero narratives.
