Marvel Studios Detective Project May Begin as a Special
According to insider Daniel RPK, Marvel Studios is reportedly planning a rumored detective project. The project could debut as a Special Presentation on Disney+. Daniel RPK claims Marvel would only develop the project into a full series if the special performs well. The report follows an earlier claim from insider James Mack, who said:
“about the detective thing, i had heard that it was supposed to be a special show about Luke Cage and Iron Fist, planned for next year, but I don’t know anything about a series about them.”
The difference between a special and a series could be significant. Rather than committing to multiple episodes immediately, Marvel could use one standalone story to determine whether audiences want more.
The Marvel Studios Detective Project’s Lead Character Is Still Unknown
Despite the growing speculation, there is still no confirmed lead for the Marvel Studios Detective Project. Daniel RPK initially reported that Marvel was developing a detective series. However, he later clarified that he did not know which character would headline the project.
He also ruled out Tony Masters as the focus. As a result, Luke Cage and Iron Fist remain possibilities rather than confirmed leads.
Could Luke Cage and Iron Fist Lead the Story?
One of the most interesting possibilities is a buddy-cop-style detective story featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The two characters could bring a very different tone to the MCU, particularly if Marvel focuses on street-level crimes rather than another cosmic or multiversal threat. Mike Colter and Finn Jones have confirmed that they will return as Luke Cage and Iron Fist in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, which premieres in March 2027.
That timing could potentially give Marvel an opportunity to continue their stories through a separate special. A Heroes for Hire project could also provide a natural direction for the characters if the studio decides to develop their partnership further.

The rumored Marvel Studios Detective Project has drawn comparisons to The Punisher Special Presentation. That project followed Daredevil: Born Again and helped demonstrate how Marvel can tell smaller-scale MCU stories through a shorter Disney+ format.

Rather than immediately producing an entire season, Marvel could introduce the characters, establish the central mystery, and then gauge the audience response. If viewers respond positively, the studio could potentially turn the concept into a full Disney+ series.
Jeff Sneider Previously Teased the Concept
The detective project also connects to an earlier report from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic. Sneider claimed the special would feature:
“somebody, like people you know, investigating crimes in the MCU.”
The description is deliberately vague, but it suggests that Marvel could use established MCU characters rather than create an entirely new detective team. That possibility makes Luke Cage and Iron Fist particularly interesting, especially with both characters already confirmed to return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
A Street-Level MCU Story Could Be a Perfect Fit
A detective-focused special could give Marvel another way to explore its street-level corner. Instead of relying on massive battles or multiversal stakes, the story could center on investigations, criminal activity, suspicious characters, and smaller conflicts within the MCU. Luke Cage and Iron Fist would fit that approach naturally.
Furthermore, the Special Presentation format could give Marvel more creative freedom. The studio could tell a complete story while leaving enough room to expand the concept later.
