Andrew Garfield may not be done with Spider-Man just yet. Years after returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield is still open to playing Peter Parker again. However, he has one condition. The next movie must offer something completely different from previous Spider-Man films.
Although many fans have continued to campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, Garfield explained that he would only return if the project takes an unconventional direction. Interestingly, his comments have already sparked fresh discussions about his future in Marvel’s multiverse.
Andrew Garfield Wants a Completely Different Spider-Man Story
During an appearance on The Playlist’s The Discourse podcast, Garfield explained the kind of project that would convince him to wear the suit again.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. It would have to be very, very odd. The project should feel strange and completely unconventional. While I wouldn’t call it boring, I’d want something completely unexpected—a genre of Spider-Man that audiences have never seen before, something that feels very left field.”
Rather than another traditional superhero adventure, Garfield wants the movie to explore a fresh and unexpected style. In fact, he even shared one idea that immediately came to mind.
“Maybe like a road trip movie.”
His comments suggest that he is interested in taking Spider-Man into unexplored territory rather than revisiting familiar storylines.
What Happened to The Amazing Spider-Man 3?
Garfield first portrayed Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and later returned in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. At one point, Sony Pictures planned a third installment in the series.
However, those plans changed after Sony and Marvel Studios reached an agreement that brought Spider-Man into the MCU with Tom Holland taking over the role.
Despite the cancellation, fan demand for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has never disappeared. Following Garfield’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, many viewers renewed their calls for Sony to continue his story.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Expanded Andrew Garfield story
Although Garfield repeatedly denied his involvement before the movie’s release, he eventually returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire.
The film also revealed what happened to Garfield’s Peter Parker after the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. According to his character, Gwen Stacy’s death pushed him into a darker phase of his life.
Peter admitted that he stopped pulling his punches and struggled to move on from the tragedy. Because of that emotional revelation, many fans believe there is still more story left to tell.
Could Andrew Garfield Return Through Marvel’s Multiverse?
Marvel’s multiverse storyline continues to create opportunities for characters from different universes to return. Therefore, another Spider-Man movie starring Garfield could still fit within Marvel’s larger plans.
Additionally, some fans believe that the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be hinting at Garfield’s return. However, neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has officially confirmed those theories.
For now, Garfield’s future as Spider-Man remains uncertain. Nevertheless, one thing is clear: if he ever returns, he wants the movie to be unlike anything fans have seen before.
Andrew Garfield is clearly open to returning as Spider-Man, but only under very specific circumstances. Instead of another standard superhero film, the actor wants a story that is strange, unconventional, and completely unexpected.
Whether Marvel and Sony decide to explore that idea remains to be seen, but Garfield’s comments have certainly reignited excitement among fans hoping to see him swing back into action.
