“I think Marvel’s approach to this is let each project stand on its own, and if an audience connects with it and if they connect with the character, then they can figure out how to keep using them,” Guest explained.
Whether Simon Williams becomes a recurring character in the MCU will largely depend on how viewers respond to the Disney+ miniseries. This gives fans the power to influence Marvel’s long-term plans and makes audience engagement more important than ever.
Trevor Slattery as an Example
Guest also pointed to the evolution of Trevor Slattery as an example of how Marvel characters can return in unexpected ways.
“Maybe you thought he would be a one-and-done after Iron Man 3, but Destin (Daniel Cretton) was able to bring him into Shang-Chi and find a whole other side of him,” he said.
“I was so thrilled to get to use that same character again, so hopefully, people fall in love with Simon Williams, and he can continue to live on.”
This demonstrates that even characters initially perceived as minor can have lasting impacts on the MCU, especially when they resonate with audiences.
