The Sentry Star conversation continues among fans after Steven Yeun recently addressed whether he could still appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although Yeun was originally attached to portray Sentry in Thunderbolts, scheduling conflicts eventually forced him to step away from the project.
However, Yeun’s recent comments suggest he might not be done with Marvel. In fact, he revealed that he is still open to joining the massive superhero franchise someday.
Marvel Initially Cast Steven Yeun as the Powerful Sentry
Initially, the Sentry Star was set to portray Robert “Bob” Reynolds, also known as Sentry, one of Marvel’s most powerful and complex characters. However, the role ultimately went to Lewis Pullman after Yeun exited the production.

The film itself is directed by Jake Schreier, who previously collaborated with Yeun on the acclaimed series Beef. Because of that working relationship, Yeun’s casting originally generated significant excitement among fans.
However, production delays caused by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike created scheduling issues for many actors in Hollywood. As a result, Yeun ultimately had to leave the project.
At the time, he explained the situation simply:
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it.”
Therefore, the role moved forward with Pullman while Yeun shifted his focus to other projects.
Sentry Star Still Open to Joining the MCU
Even though the Sentry Star left the film, Yeun never closed the door on Marvel entirely. In fact, he previously expressed genuine interest in appearing in the franchise someday.
Speaking about the possibility, the actor once said:
“I wanna do a Marvel movie.”
Recently, during an interview with MovieWeb, Yeun confirmed that he had watched Thunderbolts. At the same time, he praised director Jake Schreier and their professional relationship.
“I love Jake, Jake Schreier, [an] incredible human director.”
Consequently, the Sentry Star made it clear that his departure from the film does not mean the end of his potential MCU journey.
Steven Yeun Says “Never Say Never” About MCU Return
When asked whether he could still appear somewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Yeun delivered a response that immediately caught fans’ attention.
“I did [see it] and I never say never. I’m around.”
Because of that statement, many fans now speculate that the Sentry Star could eventually join the MCU in a completely different role. Marvel Studios has frequently cast actors in new parts even after earlier changes or dropped roles.
Therefore, while Yeun did not return as Sentry, his comments leave the door open for future possibilities within the franchise.
Meanwhile, Yeun continues to stay busy with several new projects outside of Marvel. Recently, he appeared in the film The Rip. Additionally, the actor will lend his voice to an upcoming project connected to The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.
At the same time, Yeun will also star in the upcoming film Animals. These projects demonstrate that the Sentry Star remains one of the most versatile performers working in Hollywood today. Still, many Marvel fans continue to hope that Yeun will eventually make his MCU debut. Based on his recent comments, fans certainly cannot rule out this possibility.
