The Ghost Rider MCU Return is reportedly in development, and fans may soon see the fiery anti-hero back on the big screen. However, while excitement is growing, a new rumor suggests that one fan-favorite version of the character will not return.
According to recent insider reports, the character could appear in upcoming Avengers films. Nevertheless, the rumored plans also indicate that Nicolas Cage’s version may not be part of Marvel’s future.
Ghost Rider MCU Return Reportedly Planned for Avengers Films
New rumors suggest that Marvel Studios is planning to bring Ghost Rider back in one of the next Avengers films. Insider Alex Perez first claimed that the character would appear in a future MCU project. Shortly after, scooper James Mack backed up the claim, adding more credibility to the report.
According to these reports, Ghost Rider may appear in:
- Avengers: Doomsday
- Avengers: Secret Wars
- Or potentially both films
Because the Multiverse Saga allows multiple realities to collide, Marvel has the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the character. Therefore, fans are increasingly confident that he will finally return.
Ghost Rider Has Been Missing From the MCU for Years
This would mark the character’s first appearance in nearly a decade. Ghost Rider last appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4.
During that season, Marvel introduced two versions of the character:
- Johnny Blaze
- Robbie Reyes (played by Gabriel Luna)
Johnny Blaze appeared briefly in a flashback. Meanwhile, Robbie Reyes served as the main version throughout the storyline. As a result, many fans still associate the MCU incarnation with Gabriel Luna’s portrayal.
Furthermore, Marvel once planned a Ghost Rider spin-off series starring Gabriel Luna. However, the project was ultimately canceled due to a reported creative impasse. As a result, the character has remained absent from the MCU ever since.
Multiverse Saga Makes the Character’s Comeback Possible
This return also makes sense given Marvel’s recent Multiverse strategy. In fact, Marvel has already brought back several legacy characters, including:
- Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
- Anson Mount’s Black Bolt
- Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine
Because Marvel is revisiting past characters, Ghost Rider’s return appears increasingly likely. Additionally, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to feature multiple heroes from across Marvel timelines.
Nicolas Cage Reportedly Won’t Return for Upcoming Avengers Films
While fans hoped to see Nicolas Cage return, reports suggest that Marvel currently has no plans for his comeback. Cage previously portrayed Johnny Blaze in:
- Ghost Rider (2007)
- Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012)
Despite strong fan interest, the rumored return may move forward without Cage. Interestingly, Cage previously stated in 2023 that he would be open to returning to the role. However, insiders now claim that Marvel is exploring other options.
Which Ghost Rider Could Appear in the MCU?
At the moment, it remains unclear which version of Ghost Rider Marvel will introduce. However, there are several possibilities:
- Gabriel Luna returning as Robbie Reyes
- A brand-new Johnny Blaze introduced into the MCU
- A multiverse variant of Ghost Rider
Additionally, Ryan Gosling has been rumored as a potential choice for Johnny Blaze. While this remains unconfirmed, the rumor has generated significant fan excitement.
Therefore, the Ghost Rider MCU Return could bring a completely new take on the character.
Marvel has already confirmed the release schedule for the upcoming Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. Because both films are expected to be massive crossover events featuring characters from across the Multiverse Saga, Ghost Rider’s return would fit perfectly within these large-scale projects.
This return would mark a major expansion of Marvel’s supernatural side. Additionally, it could open the door for other characters such as Blade, Moon Knight, and Midnight Sons. Although Nicolas Cage may not return, the character’s comeback alone is enough to excite fans. Furthermore, Marvel’s Multiverse Saga gives the studio endless possibilities for how Ghost Rider could be reintroduced.
