Interestingly, Benedict Cumberbatch “is becoming more involved behind the scenes”. The actor is actively participating in discussions about selecting both the new writer and director for Doctor Strange 3.
Reports indicate that Cumberbatch has expressed interest in Sam Mendes, known for 1917 and Skyfall, for the director’s role. However, Mendes is currently working on a series of four Beatles biopics, so it is unclear when he will be available.
Filming Timeline and Production Notes
Filming for Doctor Strange 3 will likely begin only after Avengers: Secret Wars finishes production, with the film releasing in December 2027.
The report also recalls the turbulent production of the previous film, where original director Scott Derrickson departed over creative differences. Additionally, Marvel informed Elizabeth Olsen just “three weeks before filming” that her character, Wanda, would be the primary antagonist. This last-minute revelation forced significant adjustments on set.
The upcoming sequel will follow up on the post-credits scene of Multiverse of Madness, which introduced Charlize Theron as Clea. This sets up Doctor Strange’s next mission and hints at new adventures in the multiverse.
