A new TV spot for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 may have quietly spoiled one of its central mysteries ahead of the March 24 premiere. Although earlier marketing suggested that Matt Murdock had gone missing, the latest 30-second promo appears to confirm that he resurfaces publicly this season.
Previously, Marvel Studios leaned heavily into the idea that Matt had vanished. One trailer even featured a “MISSING MATT MURDOCK” poster, fueling speculation about his fate. However, the newest footage changes that narrative in a major way.
Daredevil: Born Again Trailer Confirms Matt’s Return
The biggest reveal from the new Daredevil: Born Again promo comes in a brief but telling courtroom shot. Matt Murdock is seen standing inside a courtroom alongside Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF).
Importantly, the scene does not appear to be a flashback. Instead, everything suggests it takes place during the current timeline of Season 2. As a result, the mystery surrounding Matt’s disappearance may already be resolved before the season even premieres.
Marvel Studios has branded the eight-episode season as the MCU’s “most intense street-level drama” on Disney+. Therefore, confirming Matt’s public return signals that Season 2 will focus less on whether he comes back — and more on why.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Raises the Stakes
Season 2 places Mayor Wilson Fisk at the center of escalating conflict. This time, Fisk intensifies his war on vigilantes while using his political power to reshape New York City.
Meanwhile, Matt wages a guerrilla-style fight from the shadows of Hell’s Kitchen. Unlike his previous courtroom-driven approach, he now operates in a city that appears increasingly hostile to masked heroes.
However, this shift did not happen overnight.
In Season 1, Matt retired the Daredevil persona after the shocking death of Foggy Nelson. Instead of continuing as a vigilante, he attempted to honor Foggy’s legacy by proving that the legal system could still deliver justice. Through his firm, Murdock & McDuffie, Matt chose the courtroom over the streets.
Unfortunately, that path quickly unraveled. Corruption spread, and Fisk’s influence tightened its grip on the city. Consequently, Matt’s faith in the system was tested like never before.
Daredevil: Born Again Embraces a Darker Tone
Season 2 clearly leans into a darker direction. Notably, set photos have revealed Matt wearing a black suit inspired by Marvel’s Shadowland comic arc. This visual change signals a tonal evolution for Daredevil: Born Again.
The Shadowland storyline in Marvel Comics is known for pushing Matt to his limits, both morally and emotionally. Therefore, the black suit may symbolize a deeper internal struggle as well as a more intense external battle.
Moreover, Marvel Studios’ branding of the show as its most intense street-level drama suggests that Season 2 will fully embrace that darker energy. Compared to Season 1’s legal drama elements, the new season appears more aggressive, urgent, and dangerous.
The Real Mystery in Daredevil Born Again Season 2
Although the new trailer confirms Matt returns to the public eye, it leaves one critical question unanswered: what forces him back?
Why does Matt stand in a courtroom again under Fisk’s regime?
What compels him to step forward publicly after seemingly going into hiding?
Interestingly, this mystery may be more important than his disappearance ever was.
Furthermore, the fallout from Season 2 could extend beyond Hell’s Kitchen. The escalating street-level conflict may ripple into other grounded MCU stories, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If so, Daredevil Born Again could play a key role in shaping the future of Marvel’s street-level storytelling.
