Chris Hemsworth Teases a “Unique” New Direction for Thor After Avengers: Doomsday!

Chris Hemsworth has hinted at a unique direction for Thor in the MCU following the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film. During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, Hemsworth shared insights about the God of Thunder’s future. This revelation has sparked widespread excitement among MCU enthusiasts. They are curious to see how the character will evolve in Phase 6.

Thor Unique MCU Direction: Hemsworth’s Plans After Doomsday

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo will direct Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, Marvel will release Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Speaking about his ongoing role, Hemsworth revealed he expects to play Thor a “couple more times” after Doomsday.

He explained:

“I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character.”

Additionally, Hemsworth teased:

“And whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”

This suggests that Marvel, along with Chris Hemsworth, is actively exploring fresh storylines and tonal shifts, ensuring Thor remains one of the MCU’s most compelling and unpredictable heroes. Fans can therefore expect a blend of epic action, humor, and emotional depth in upcoming appearances.

Chris Hemsworth: Past Tonal Shifts in Thor’s Films

Hemsworth reflected on the varying tones of previous Thor movies. He noted:

“You do need to be careful. When we made Ragnarok, it was quite a twist, with Taika’s [movie]. And it was so fun. There was a huge appreciation for the shift. And then [with] Love And Thunder, it was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much, and then there was some backlash. There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.’”

These experiences highlight Marvel’s willingness to experiment with tone and style, balancing humor, drama, and high-stakes action to keep the character fresh and engaging. Moreover, it shows that Thor’s story can adapt to evolving audience expectations while remaining true to the essence of the God of Thunder.

What’s Next for Thor?

While Thor is expected to appear in Secret Wars, a fifth standalone Thor film has not yet been officially announced. Marvel has already released four Doomsday teaser trailers, showcasing returning heroes such as Steve Rogers, Thor, Shuri/Black Panther, and Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Consequently, fans can anticipate exciting developments, character growth, and unexpected twists for Thor in the MCU’s upcoming phase. Furthermore, Hemsworth’s hints suggest that Marvel may explore darker or more complex storylines, perhaps giving the character a chance to evolve beyond the comedic and epic tones of previous films.

Ultimately, Thor’s journey continues to captivate audiences, blending heroism, humor, and emotional depth. With the MCU’s Phase 6 promising new challenges, Thor’s evolution is set to become one of the most talked-about storylines in the franchise.
