The production timeline for Avengers: Secret Wars appears to be shifting. Despite reports of delays, Marvel Studios may already be filming important material behind the scenes, keeping fans hopeful.
Recently, insider Daniel Richtman claimed that filming for Avengers: Secret Wars will now begin in August 2026. Previously, April 2026 was rumored as the expected start date. Naturally, this update raised concerns among fans about whether the film would have enough time to meet its December 2027 release.
Avengers: Secret Wars Production Reportedly Delayed to August 2026
According to Richtman, the production start has moved from mid-2026 to August 2026. If accurate, filming would likely continue for about six months and wrap around January 2027.
Because the film is scheduled for release in December 2027, this timeline would leave less than a year for post-production. That includes editing, reshoots, and extensive visual effects work. Therefore, some fans questioned whether the schedule felt too tight for such a massive MCU event. After all, Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be one of the biggest films in Marvel Studios history, possibly redefining the multiverse storyline for the MCU.
May Already Be Filming Key Scenes
Interestingly, scooper MAJESTIC_ucm shared a different perspective on X. According to their report, Marvel may already be filming select material for Avengers: Secret Wars during April 2026 reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday.
They stated:
“Well, what I’m hearing is that in April, besides reshoots for [Doomsday], they’re preparing principal photography for both projects, and that they’re privately filming material for [Secret Wars].”
In other words, Marvel could be maximizing efficiency by shooting scenes while key cast members are already available.
Furthermore, the insider added:
“Shooting some scenes in specific locations while the talent needed for one or both films is in the same place.”
This strategy would significantly reduce scheduling conflicts. More importantly, it would help the studio stay ahead of production demands.
Marvel Already Working on Avengers: Secret Wars Visual Effects
Another crucial detail involves post-production. According to MAJESTIC_ucm, Marvel is already working on visual effects for Avengers: Secret Wars.
They explained:
“Already working on visual effects for Avengers: Secret Wars before filming much, apart from the material they already shot during the production of Avengers: Doomsday. They have plenty of time and probably a clearer structure for the next film.”
If true, this changes the narrative entirely. Instead of falling behind, Marvel may actually be ahead of schedule. Additionally, the same source claims the delay may only extend production until June 2026, not August. Therefore, filming could begin earlier than Richtman suggested.
Avengers: Secret Wars and the MCU Multiverse
The careful planning for Avengers: Secret Wars is likely connected to the sprawling multiverse storylines in the MCU. Marvel Studios may be coordinating filming with actors’ schedules across multiple projects.
Moreover, overlapping production allows Marvel to maintain continuity in both performances and visual effects. For fans, this could mean smoother transitions between MCU Phase 6 films and a more cohesive storyline leading into the massive Secret Wars event. As a result, despite initial concerns about the compressed timeline, Marvel’s approach seems methodical and well-organized.
At this stage, conflicting reports make it difficult to confirm the exact timeline. However, one thing is clear: Marvel Studios appears confident in its strategy. By overlapping production, beginning VFX early, and possibly filming select sequences in advance, the studio may be avoiding the time crunch altogether.
As a result, fans may not need to worry about the December 2027 release date just yet. With careful planning, Avengers: Secret Wars is shaping up to be a pivotal and visually spectacular chapter for the MCU.
