Mahershala Ali's Blade

Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Gets a Major New Update From Mahershala Ali!

Mahershala Ali’s Blade future has finally been addressed, and his latest comments leave little room for interpretation. The Oscar-winning actor spoke about the long-delayed Marvel project during an interview with Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival. When asked about his status with the movie, Ali gave a blunt response that immediately drew attention.

Blade Future Appears to Be Over

Ali was asked directly about his involvement with Blade. His response was clear:

“I’m over that. I’m done with that.”

The brief statement suggests that Ali has officially moved on from the project. His comments also provide another strong indication that Marvel’s original plans for the MCU’s Daywalker have changed significantly. After years of delays and development problems, Ali appears ready to leave the project behind rather than continue waiting for it to take shape.

Marvel’s Blade Reboot Faced Years of Delays

Marvel Studios first announced Ali as Blade at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. The project then went through a long and complicated development process. Multiple writers and directors became attached at different stages, while the planned release date continued to change.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade was initially scheduled to arrive in November 2023. Marvel later moved it to September 2024, then February 2025, and eventually November 2025. However, the movie never reached theaters with Ali in the title role. The lengthy development period appears to have played a major part in the actor’s decision to move on.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade Still Has an MCU Connection

Although Ali never got to headline his own Blade movie, he already has a connection to the MCU. His voice appeared during the post-credits scene of Eternals. The scene teased Blade through a conversation involving Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman.

That moment initially suggested that Ali’s version of the character would soon make his full debut. Years later, however, the planned movie still had not materialized.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade Training Was Extensive

Ali also spent considerable time preparing for the role. According to Deadline’s interview, the actor trained for more than a year while preparing for Blade.

He also spoke positively about his experience with Marvel. The studio reportedly helped fund his film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. That makes Ali’s latest comments particularly notable. Despite investing significant time in the role, he now appears to have closed that chapter.

What Happens to Mahershala Ali’s Blade Now?

Ali’s comments leave the future of Marvel’s Blade unclear. The actor has made it clear that he no longer considers himself part of the project. However, Marvel Studios has not provided a new official plan for the Daywalker.

The studio could eventually recast the role or rethink the project entirely. For now, though, Mahershala Ali’s Blade plans appear to be firmly in the past. After years of development, the actor has seemingly decided that it is time to move on from Marvel’s troubled reboot.
