Charlie Cox Finally Explains Daredevil’s Absence From Spider-Man: Brand New Day!

For months, Marvel fans have wondered whether Charlie Cox would return as Daredevil in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The speculation grew even stronger after Marvel confirmed Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would play a major role in the movie.

Since Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock has already crossed paths with Spider-Man in the MCU, many fans expected the Man Without Fear to return. However, Cox has now addressed the speculation and revealed that he already knew Daredevil would not be part of the movie.

Charlie Cox Knew Daredevil Was Not in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Charlie Cox recently addressed the constant questions about his possible appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

According to Cox, he already knew that he was not involved in the movie. That made the situation difficult because fans continued to ask him about a possible return.

Cox explained:

“I’m so glad I don’t have to answer that question anymore. Ugh. It’s awful because I knew I wasn’t in it.”

He also revealed how fans would react whenever they asked him about the movie.

“The amount of times people would be like, ‘Are you in Spider-Man?’ I just knew…they’d walk away with this big grin on their face, and that their hearts were gonna break.”

As a result, Cox had to keep the secret while fans continued searching for clues about Daredevil’s possible appearance.

Why Fans Expected Daredevil to Appear?

The speculation surrounding Daredevil was understandable.

Charlie Cox made his official MCU debut as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although his appearance was brief, it confirmed that Daredevil exists within the same live-action universe as Spider-Man.

Since then, fans have continued to connect the two characters.

The excitement grew even further when Jon Bernthal returned as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Daredevil and Punisher have a long history together in Marvel Comics and live-action stories.

Therefore, many fans believed Marvel could use the movie to bring Matt Murdock back into Peter Parker’s story.

Daredevil Rumors Included a Prison Storyline

Several rumors suggested that Daredevil could have appeared in a storyline involving Matt Murdock behind bars.

One theory claimed that Matt could have been held inside a Department of Damage Control prison. This would have given Spider-Man and Daredevil an opportunity to interact without making Murdock a major part of the main story.

Another rumor suggested a much more unusual storyline.

According to speculation, Spider-Man could have battled a Daredevil whose mind was controlled by Jean Grey. However, that rumored storyline did not make it into the movie.

Ultimately, none of these theories resulted in Charlie Cox appearing as Daredevil in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Charlie Cox Also Addresses Avengers: Secret Wars

Fans also wanted to know whether Cox would appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

When asked about the possibility, Cox gave a very direct response:

“No, I’m not going to be in it, no. Sorry. And you can believe me now.”

That answer should put an end to speculation about Cox appearing as Daredevil in the upcoming Avengers movie, at least for now.

Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for 2027 and is expected to feature a massive lineup of Marvel heroes. Because of the movie’s importance to the MCU, fans have naturally speculated about numerous surprise appearances.

However, Cox has now made his position clear.

What Does This Mean for Daredevil in the MCU?

Cox’s comments do not necessarily mean that Daredevil’s MCU journey is coming to an end.

Matt Murdock remains an important part of Daredevil: Born Again. The series continues to develop his story while expanding the character’s place within the MCU.

At the same time, Marvel’s future plans for live-action Disney+ projects have sparked questions about where Daredevil could appear next.

For now, fans should separate confirmed information from rumors.

Cox has confirmed that he was not part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He has also denied appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, those statements do not necessarily rule out future appearances in other MCU projects.

Daredevil Could Still Return in the Future

Although Charlie Cox has ruled out the projects discussed above, Daredevil’s future in the MCU remains open.

Marvel Studios has repeatedly surprised fans by bringing established characters back when a story requires them. Moreover, Matt Murdock remains one of Marvel’s most popular street-level heroes.

Therefore, Cox’s latest comments should not be viewed as the end of Daredevil’s MCU story.

For now, however, fans should not expect Daredevil in Spider-Man: Brand New Day or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Instead, the character’s next major chapter remains connected to Daredevil: Born Again and Marvel’s future plans for Matt Murdock.

Charlie Cox has finally provided a clear answer about Daredevil’s absence from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He knew he was not part of the movie despite months of fan speculation. Furthermore, Cox has also denied appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars. While that news may disappoint fans, it does not necessarily mean Daredevil will never return to the MCU.
