Ryan Reynolds may once again be sharpening his katanas as Wade Wilson, but Deadpool 4 is still far from a sure thing. A new industry report suggests that Reynolds is actively focusing on developing the next Deadpool movie, signaling a potential MCU return. However, Marvel Studios has yet to officially greenlight the project. While excitement is building among fans, several factors indicate that Deadpool’s future remains uncertain.
Ryan Reynolds Is Reportedly Prioritizing Deadpool 4
According to Puck, Ryan Reynolds is making Deadpool 4 a top priority amid ongoing personal and industry shifts. This development suggests that Reynolds is eager to continue the character’s journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That said, despite this renewed focus, Marvel Studios has not formally approved the film. Moreover, Reynolds was notably absent from the cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, raising further questions about Deadpool’s immediate MCU future.
Could Deadpool Appear in Avengers: Doomsday?
Even without an official greenlight, speculation continues to swirl. Some insiders believe Deadpool could still appear in Avengers: Doomsday, potentially interacting with characters like Reed Richards. However, it’s important to note that nothing has been confirmed. Until Marvel makes an official announcement, these rumors remain purely speculative.
Marvel Studios Feels “No Urgency” About Deadpool 4
Back in July 2025, Variety reported that Marvel Studios feels “no sense of urgency” when it comes to producing Deadpool 4. Instead, the studio is prioritizing major projects such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, both slated for 2026. As a result, Deadpool’s solo return has taken a temporary backseat, despite the character’s massive popularity.
Ryan Reynolds’ Hesitation About Another Solo Deadpool Film
Interestingly, Reynolds himself has expressed some hesitation about centering another movie solely on Deadpool. While he admits to having ideas, he doesn’t believe another standalone film is the right move—at least not in the traditional sense.
Reynolds previously explained:
“I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool.
He is a great supporting or ensemble player. And I would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way. Centering Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again. A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool, which is fulfilling and powerful.”
Reynolds last appeared as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The film was a massive success, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
For now, Deadpool 4 remains stuck in development limbo. While Ryan Reynolds appears ready to bring the character back, Marvel Studios is taking a cautious approach.
Ultimately, Deadpool’s MCU future may depend on how Marvel chooses to integrate him—whether as a solo anti-hero or as part of a larger ensemble. Until then, fans will have to wait patiently for official confirmation.
