Fantastic Four’s box office debut is turning heads, launching with an impressive $118 million domestically and $218 million globally. Mister Fantastic and his family are finally back on the big screen—this time under Marvel Studios instead of 20th Century Fox. Moreover, the reboot marks a fresh chapter for the franchise, which had previously struggled to find its footing. The film’s stronger creative direction and rising fan anticipation are paying off. It’s now seen as a much-needed success for Marvel Studios.
Fantastic Four’s Box Office Surpasses Expectations
This strong debut is a much-needed win for both Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios and the long-dormant Fantastic Four franchise. The film, directed by Matt Shakman, exceeded tracking expectations. It outperformed earlier predictions for its U.S. opening. On Saturday morning, estimates pointed to a possible $120–$125 million weekend. However, slower-than-expected traffic that day brought the final number to $118 million domestically.
Even so, the global total of $218 million puts it close to the $220 million debut of DC’s Superman. He remains a flagship hero, alongside Spider-Man and Batman. This performance shows Marvel’s First Family can still compete with the best in the genre.
After a few rocky years for Marvel (with Deadpool & Wolverine as the standout exception), Fantastic Four’s box office performance signals a return to form. The reboot is one of Marvel’s best domestic openings in recent years. It also marks the 37th MCU title to debut at number one.
It’s also a historic moment for Disney, as the film helped the studio surpass $3 billion in global ticket sales for 2025. The results are a clear reminder of the enduring appeal of Marvel properties when handled right.
Although Superman continues to soar—passing the $500 million global mark in its third weekend—Fantastic Four is proving a worthy contender. Superman grossed $24.9 million domestically and $19.8 million internationally over the weekend, bringing its total to $502.7 million. Despite the competition, Fantastic Four managed to snatch Imax screens and significant buzz with its A- CinemaScore and 93% Rotten Tomatoes audience score.
Fantastic Four’s Box Office Success Combats Superhero Fatigue
In a landscape often accused of superhero fatigue, this film is defying the trend. With strong word of mouth, glowing audience reception, and wide family appeal, the reboot is positioned to enjoy long legs at the box office. PostTrak exit polls also show high satisfaction levels among viewers, suggesting Marvel has found its footing again. Notably, Fantastic Four: First Steps earned an A- on CinemaScore — the same rating received by Thunderbolts — showing that Marvel’s recent titles are resonating more consistently with audiences.
Other Box Office Highlights
Elsewhere at the box office, Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World: Rebirth continues to thrive, earning $13 million in its fourth weekend and clearing $300 million domestically and $600 million globally. Meanwhile, Apple Original Films’ F1: The Movie stunned industry watchers by crossing the $500 million global mark, grossing $6.2 million domestically and $20 million internationally this weekend alone.
Paramount’s Smurfs reboot, however, couldn’t recover in its second weekend, dropping 51% to $5.4 million for a 10-day total of $22.8 million. Similarly, Columbia and Screen Gems’ I Know What You Did Last Summer slipped 60% to $5.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $23.6 million.
