The speculation comes shortly after Prime Video canceled Spider-Noir after one season. Cage starred in the series as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator and superhero operating in an alternate version of 1930s New York. Now, reports of a potential live-action Clone Saga series have fans wondering whether Cage could return to the Spider-Man universe in a completely different role. However, neither Cage nor the studios involved have confirmed anything yet.

The latest speculation began after @DiscussingFilm reported on X that a live-action Spider-Man: Clone Saga television series was reportedly in development. The report immediately prompted fans to connect the project with Cage.

The reactions highlight how quickly Cage’s name has become associated with the reported project. Still, there is currently no evidence that the series has approached Cage.
Cage Already Played a Very Different Ben Reilly
The potential connection is particularly interesting because Cage already played a character named Ben Reilly in Spider-Noir. However, the character differs drastically from the Ben Reilly found in Marvel Comics. In Spider-Noir, Cage’s Ben Reilly is an older and experienced private investigator operating in an alternate 1930s New York.
He is also portrayed as a superhero. The comic book version of Ben Reilly has a completely different history.
Who Is Ben Reilly in Marvel Comics?
In Marvel Comics, Ben Reilly is a genetic clone of Peter Parker. The Jackal created Ben using Peter’s DNA, eventually setting up one of the most complicated stories in Spider-Man history. Ben eventually adopts the Scarlet Spider identity and becomes a major part of the Spider-Man mythos.
His story became especially important during the famous 1990s Clone Saga. The storyline questioned Peter Parker’s identity and explored whether he was actually the original Spider-Man. That makes the reported television project particularly interesting.
Could Nicolas Cage Play the Comic Book Ben Reilly?
A Nicolas Cage Spider-Man Return could theoretically give the actor another opportunity to play Ben Reilly. This time, however, the character could potentially resemble the comic book version more closely. The two versions would still be connected by name, but their histories would be dramatically different.
Cage’s Spider-Noir character is an older private investigator from an alternate 1930s reality. The comic version is Peter Parker’s clone who becomes the Scarlet Spider. A Clone Saga adaptation could therefore provide Sony and Amazon with a completely different interpretation of Ben Reilly. There is currently no confirmation that Cage will be involved.

A live-action Clone Saga series could explore more than just Ben Reilly. The storyline could also introduce Kaine Parker, another clone created from Peter Parker’s DNA. Kaine eventually becomes a major character in Spider-Man mythology and has a complicated relationship with both Peter and Ben.
If Sony and Amazon move forward with the reported project, the Clone Saga could therefore provide a much larger Spider-Man story than simply adapting Ben Reilly’s origin. However, the reported series remains unconfirmed.
Spider-Noir Was Sony and Amazon’s First Collaboration
Spider-Noir was significant for another reason. The series was the first Marvel-related project produced under the partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
The show explored a completely different corner of Spider-Man mythology by focusing on an alternate version of Ben Reilly. Its cancellation after one season has therefore raised questions about the future of Sony and Amazon’s live-action Spider-Man television plans.
Despite the cancellation, the companies reportedly intend to continue working together on additional Marvel-related television projects. That could eventually include other Spider-Man-related stories.
Could the Spider-Man TV Universe Continue?
The reported Clone Saga series could give Sony and Amazon another opportunity to explore Spider-Man characters in live action. The premise also fits the type of alternate approach that has become increasingly common across Sony’s Spider-Man projects.
Rather than focusing directly on Peter Parker, the studio has explored different characters and versions of the Spider-Man mythology. A Clone Saga adaptation could continue that strategy while introducing Ben Reilly, Kaine, and other characters from the comics. The major question is whether the reported project will actually move forward.
