The Loki Season 2 Sequel could finally be arriving in an unexpected form. Rather than returning for a third season, Tom Hiddleston’s God of Stories is reportedly set to continue his story in Avengers: Doomsday.
Loki has been largely absent from the MCU since the emotional conclusion of Loki Season 2. However, the upcoming Avengers movie could bring him and the TVA back into the center of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Instead of undoing Loki’s sacrifice, Doomsday appears positioned to build directly from it.
Loki Season 2 Sequel Could Continue in Avengers: Doomsday
Loki’s MCU journey has changed dramatically since his introduction. The version played by Hiddleston in Loki was an Avengers: Endgame variant who initially remained selfish and unpredictable. Across two seasons, however, Loki gradually became a character willing to sacrifice everything for the survival of countless timelines.
The Season 2 finale brought that transformation to its conclusion. Loki became the God of Stories and used his powers to save hundreds of dying timelines. He then connected those timelines into Yggdrasil, the World Tree. That decision left Loki sitting alone at the center of the multiverse. Now, Avengers: Doomsday could serve as the Loki Season 2 Sequel fans have been waiting for.
Loki and the TVA Are Returning
Loki’s return is reportedly tied closely to the TVA. The restructured organization is expected to play an important role in Avengers: Doomsday, while Loki could once again become central to the MCU’s multiverse storyline.
Avengers: Endgame Encore is also being re-released globally with three new full-length post-credits scenes ahead of Doomsday. The exact contents of those scenes remain under wraps. However, reports indicate that Loki and the TVA feature significantly in two of them. That could establish a direct bridge between the events of Loki Season 2 and the upcoming Avengers movie.
Doomsday Has Already Teased Loki’s Return
The first official Avengers: Doomsday trailer has already provided a major clue about Loki’s importance. One brief shot shows Loki looking at his TVA employment card. The back of the card features an image of Yggdrasil.
That imagery appears to connect directly to Loki’s final transformation in Season 2. The connection is particularly interesting because Yggdrasil represents the network of timelines Loki now protects.
The movie could reportedly include scenes from Loki’s time with the TVA both before and after he becomes the new He Who Remains. If accurate, that would make Doomsday a genuine continuation of the story rather than simply another MCU appearance for Hiddleston.
How Can Loki Leave His Throne?
The biggest question surrounding the Loki Season 2 Sequel is how the God of Stories can actually leave his position. Loki’s sacrifice placed him in control of the timelines. His purpose is essentially to keep the multiverse alive.
So why would he abandon his throne?
There are several possibilities. Perhaps Loki discovers another way to maintain the multiverse without remaining permanently on the throne. Alternatively, there may no longer be anything left for him to protect in the same way.
Another possibility is that Doctor Doom becomes powerful enough to threaten Loki’s position. If Doom directly attacks the structure of the multiverse, Loki may have no choice but to become involved. For now, Marvel has not revealed exactly how Loki will enter the story.

“Loki felt like a closure. And when Marvel called about Avengers: Doomsday, it was going to be starting from that end point. So there was no sense of unstitching or undoing all of that development. That development still stands as a place to begin.”
That comment provides an important indication of how Marvel is approaching Loki’s return. The studio does not appear to be erasing the Season 2 finale. Instead, Loki’s sacrifice remains the starting point for his next chapter.
Loki Could Be Essential Before Doomsday
The Loki Season 2 Sequel could also make the Disney+ series particularly important to Avengers: Doomsday. Several Marvel shows have focused on individual characters or introduced new heroes. Loki, however, dealt directly with the mechanics of the MCU’s multiverse.
The TVA, branching timelines, variants, and the potential destruction of reality were all central to the series. Those concepts could now become important to the next Avengers story.
Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also explored the multiverse. However, Loki went considerably deeper into the structure behind Marvel’s timelines. That makes the series particularly relevant to Doomsday.
Why Loki Does Not Need Season 3?
Interestingly, the Loki Season 2 Sequel does not need to be another Disney+ season. A third season could technically continue Loki’s story. However, extending the series could risk weakening the emotional impact of the Season 2 finale. Loki’s sacrifice works because he accepts an eternal responsibility to protect the multiverse.
A new season that immediately reverses that decision could undermine his character development. Avengers: Doomsday provides a different solution. Marvel can continue Loki’s story while preserving the ending that made his Season 2 journey so meaningful.
Loki Could Help Connect the Multiverse Saga
Loki’s return could also help Marvel connect several major pieces of the Multiverse Saga. The MCU has undergone significant changes during the saga, including the decision to move away from Kang the Conqueror and make Doctor Doom the central threat.
That shift has created questions about how the franchise’s earlier multiverse storylines will connect to its new direction. Loki is uniquely positioned to help bridge that gap. As the God of Stories, he sits at the center of the multiverse. His connection to the TVA also gives him knowledge that few other MCU characters possess. His return could therefore give Doomsday a direct connection to the multiversal events established over several previous projects.
The MCU May Finally Be Making Loki’s Story Matter Again
Making Disney+ series essential to theatrical MCU movies has always been complicated. Casual audiences may not want to watch multiple seasons before seeing an Avengers film. However, Loki spent 12 episodes establishing the TVA and the rules governing the multiverse.
That extensive world-building could now become valuable. At the same time, Marvel has increasingly moved toward more self-contained projects, including Daredevil: Born Again. The approach with Loki could be different. Instead of launching another season, Marvel can use Doomsday to continue the character’s story while keeping his original conclusion intact.
Loki Season 2 Sequel Could Change His Future
Ultimately, the Loki Season 2 Sequel could give fans the continuation they never expected. Loki’s Season 2 finale gave him one of the MCU’s most definitive endings. Yet his position as the God of Stories also makes him too important to the multiverse to remain completely disconnected from the larger saga.
Avengers: Doomsday could finally explore what happens when that responsibility is threatened. With the TVA reportedly returning and Yggdrasil already appearing in the movie’s marketing, Loki’s connection to the upcoming Avengers story appears increasingly significant.
The biggest mystery is now how Loki can leave his throne—and what threat could possibly force the God of Stories to return.
