The Avengers: Doomsday Scarlet Witch Photo that recently went viral appeared to offer fans a major clue about Marvel’s next Avengers movie. However, the image may not be what fans initially thought.
The alleged set photo sparked speculation that Elizabeth Olsen could return as Wanda Maximoff, with fans connecting the mysterious costume in the image to Doctor Doom’s witch servants. Now, a well-known scooper has directly addressed the claim.
Avengers: Doomsday Scarlet Witch Photo Is Not Real
The viral image quickly caught the attention of Marvel fans because of its supposed connection to Scarlet Witch. Fans believed the woman shown in the photo was Elizabeth Olsen. Some also suggested that her costume resembled the outfits worn by Doctor Doom’s witch servants, creating speculation about Wanda’s possible role in Avengers: Doomsday.
However, scooper @MyTimeToShineH has now debunked the image.
“That is not real people come on now,” wrote the scooper.
As a result, the Avengers: Doomsday Scarlet Witch Photo should not be considered legitimate evidence that Olsen has returned to the MCU.
Is Elizabeth Olsen Returning as Scarlet Witch?
Marvel Studios has not confirmed Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday. Still, Wanda’s potential comeback has remained a popular topic among fans. Several rumors have previously suggested that Scarlet Witch could have a surprising role in the upcoming crossover.
Her return would certainly make sense from a storytelling perspective, considering the MCU’s continued focus on the multiverse. However, Marvel has yet to reveal whether Wanda will actually appear. For now, fans should separate confirmed casting information from online rumors and unverified images.
Avengers: Doomsday Brings Marvel Heroes Together
Even without Scarlet Witch, Avengers: Doomsday already features an enormous lineup of Marvel characters. The movie will unite heroes from several corners of the franchise, including the New Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Chris Evans is set to reprise his role as Steve Rogers, while Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor.
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU in a dramatically different role. After portraying Iron Man for more than a decade, the actor will now play Doctor Doom. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Fantastic Four Join the Massive Cast
The Fantastic Four will also play an important part in the upcoming crossover. The cast includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Joseph Quinn, and Lewis Pullman, among others.
With characters from different Marvel franchises appearing together, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the MCU’s biggest ensemble films.
Furthermore, the movie’s multiverse setup creates plenty of opportunities for unexpected appearances.
Original X-Men Stars Are Returning
The movie will also feature several stars from the original X-Men franchise. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer, and Rebecca Romijn are all returning.
Their involvement adds another major layer to the crossover. Additionally, their return raises questions about how the legacy X-Men characters will interact with the MCU’s current heroes. Marvel has yet to reveal every major story detail, so plenty of mysteries remain surrounding the film.
Scarlet Witch’s Last MCU Appearance
Scarlet Witch was last seen in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The movie appeared to end Wanda’s story after she destroyed the Darkhold across the multiverse. Since then, however, fans have repeatedly speculated that the character could eventually return.
The MCU’s multiverse storyline leaves the door open for characters to reappear in unexpected ways. Consequently, Wanda remains one of the most frequently discussed potential returns. However, the debunked Avengers: Doomsday Scarlet Witch Photo does not provide reliable evidence of an Olsen comeback.
When Does Avengers: Doomsday Release?
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. With Doctor Doom, the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandan heroes, and returning X-Men stars involved, Marvel has assembled a massive crossover event.
As for Scarlet Witch, fans will have to wait for an official announcement before knowing whether Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role. Until then, the viral photo should be treated as fake rather than a genuine Scarlet Witch reveal.
