New details about The Punisher: One Last Kill have officially been revealed, including where the project fits within the MCU timeline and why Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle did not have a larger role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Dario Scardapane recently shared new insights into the upcoming Punisher special while discussing Frank Castle’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Why Frank Castle Had a Smaller Role in Born Again Season 2
According to Dario Scardapane, Frank Castle’s limited appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was not caused by scheduling conflicts.
Instead, the decision was directly connected to the story being developed for The Punisher: One Last Kill.
Scardapane explained:
“I know that Jon had been talking to the people at Marvel and had a very specific idea in mind about what happened to Frank after the end of the Punisher series,”
He also praised Jon Bernthal’s involvement in the upcoming season, saying:
“He came in so graciously, gratefully and wonderfully in Season 2 for a pretty eye-popping pair of scenes.”
Scardapane further clarified that the creative direction behind the Punisher special played a major role in limiting Frank Castle’s presence in Born Again.
“So, not having Jon in Season 2 more reflects about the story he wanted to tell with the Punisher special.”
Punisher: One Last Kill Timeline Officially Clarified
One of the biggest reveals from the update involved the timeline placement of The Punisher: One Last Kill.
According to Scardapane, the special primarily explores the events following The Punisher Season 2 while also overlapping with parts of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
He explained:
“I think this tells the story of what happened next after Punisher and before and during the events of [Born Again] Season 2,”
The project will reportedly serve as a bridge between Frank Castle’s original Netflix-era storyline and his newer MCU appearances.
The Punisher: One Last Kill Special Bridges Netflix and MCU Continuity
The timeline clarification is especially important for longtime Marvel fans who have followed Frank Castle since his Netflix debut.
The Punisher originally ended without fully resolving Frank’s long-term future, leaving many fans wondering how the character eventually reconnects with the wider MCU.
The Punisher: One Last Kill now appears set to answer those lingering questions while expanding Frank Castle’s story in a more meaningful way.
The special may also provide additional context for his emotional and violent mindset during the events of Daredevil: Born Again.
Release Date Confirmed for Disney+
Marvel has officially scheduled The Punisher: One Last Kill to premiere on Disney+ on May 12, 2026.
The special is already generating major excitement among Marvel fans, especially with Jon Bernthal returning to continue Frank Castle’s story.
The latest update on The Punisher: One Last Kill has finally clarified both its MCU timeline placement and the reason behind Frank Castle’s smaller role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
With the project bridging the gap between the Netflix-era Punisher series and the MCU, the upcoming special could become one of Marvel’s most important street-level stories yet.
