New reports have revealed fresh details about what Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could have looked like. Although Marvel Studios canceled the movie, these details offer a clearer look at the studio’s early plans for the Avengers franchise.
The Current Status of the MCU’s Avengers Films
Marvel Studios is currently putting Doomsday into post-production. Joe and Anthony Russo, known as the Russo Brothers, are directing the film. It will release in less than a year and aims to redefine the superhero lineup.
Avengers: Secret Wars will arrive in theaters in December 2027. The film promises to be one of the largest crossover events in Marvel Studios history.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Its Cancellation
Marvel Studios planned The Kang Dynasty as the next MCU film before announcing Doomsday. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was set to direct it.
Jonathan Majors was expected to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror. After Disney fired Majors due to his legal troubles, Marvel Studios abandoned the MCU’s Kang-focused storyline. As a result, the studio canceled The Kang Dynasty and restructured its long-term plans for the franchise.
Rumored Plot Details from the Canceled MCU Movie
Although we previously knew little about The Kang Dynasty, scooper MyTimeToShineHello has shared new information about the canceled MCU film.
The post reads,
“In this film, the TVA began gathering Anchor Beings from across the Multiverse, believing they are the only ones powerful enough to defeat the Council of Kangs. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were the Anchors for their respective realities, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man served as the Anchor for Earth-616. The film was designed to be smaller than Secret Wars. It would have focused on Holland’s Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and other Anchors, including Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider.”
“The plan was for all of them to ultimately fail, leading to the collapse of the Multiverse and Kang’s creation of Battleworld. This would then set the stage for Secret Wars, where other MCU characters and additional Multiverse figures would converge on Battleworld.”
A More Character-Driven Avengers Story
The report states that The Kang Dynasty focused more on characters than spectacle. By highlighting key Multiverse heroes, Marvel Studios aimed to create a more emotional story. This approach would have allowed deeper exploration of different versions of iconic characters. At the same time, it would have advanced the larger Multiverse storyline, especially through the three Spider-Men.
The failure of the Anchor Beings would have triggered the collapse of the Multiverse. As a result, it would have marked one of the darkest moments in MCU history. This event would have allowed Kang to create Battleworld, a key location in Avengers: Secret Wars.
What Remains Unconfirmed
Despite the detailed rumor, Marvel Studios has never officially revealed plot information for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Marvel Studios has not confirmed Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, Hugh Jackman, or Nicolas Cage as cast members. This applies to both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These details are unverified and should be considered rumors.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027. Marvel Studios canceled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but the leaked details show how the Avengers story might have unfolded. Marvel Studios remains committed to delivering an epic conclusion to the Multiverse Saga through Doomsday and Secret Wars.
