Kevin Feige Teases Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Future in the MCU!

Marvel Has Big Plans for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool

Kevin Feige has teased what lies ahead for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once limited by character rights, the MCU has now grown into a colossal franchise. In its early days, Marvel Studios didn’t have access to several top-tier characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, or the Fantastic Four. Other studios owned the rights, making crossovers impossible.

However, Marvel has since regained control of almost every major character. This has opened the door to exciting new stories—especially on the big screen. One major result of this shift was last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which finally brought both characters into the MCU.

Deadpool and Wolverine Already Opened the Door

LLast year’s Deadpool and Wolverine introduced the two titular X-Men (or X-Men-adjacent) characters into the MCU. Although they still exist in their own little pocket of reality, the film opens the door for them to play a more direct role in the larger multiverse saga.

The film even jokingly teases a potential connection between Deadpool and Thor, with a line suggesting that the Merc With a Mouth dies in Thor’s arms. With that said, one would imagine Deadpool and Wolverine will appear in the next two Avengers movies, especially given their epic scale and ensemble cast.

Even old X-Men actors like Patrick Stewart are making an appearance, but Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have yet to be confirmed.

Kevin Feige Confirms Discussions Are Underway

Ryan Reynolds has also been vague about future Deadpool installments, but it does seem like he will return as Deadpool in the future. ComicBook attended a roundtable interview with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. When asked about the future of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Feige confirmed that ongoing talks are happening between the three of them.

“There have absolutely been discussions,” Feige said. “We’re in touch with Ryan a lot. So the answer is yes.”

When pressed on Hugh Jackman’s involvement, Feige joked:

“He’s doing it until he’s 90, man.”

Clearly, there’s no shortage of interest in continuing their stories—especially as Marvel charts its post-Secret Wars future.

What’s Next for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the MCU?

Right now, it’s unclear where exactly Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine might appear next. Marvel is currently mapping out the next three phases of its cinematic universe. Their next appearance could happen after Avengers: Secret Wars—or possibly even sooner.

Interestingly, Ryan Reynolds is also reportedly writing a new project featuring an X-Men-style ensemble. It’s not exactly an X-Men film, though. It could be Deadpool 4, X-Force, or something entirely new. However, reports suggest Reynolds hasn’t formally pitched the idea to Feige yet, as he’s still working on the concept.

Will Hugh Jackman Stay Wolverine Forever?

Whether or not Marvel plans to recast Wolverine for its upcoming X-Men reboot remains unknown. But so long as Hugh Jackman remains willing to suit up, even occasionally, the studio might delay introducing a new actor. Jackman’s enduring popularity makes that an easy decision to justify—for now.

Why Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Still Matters

Deadpool’s inclusion goes beyond mere fan service. His tone, humor, and fourth-wall-breaking style inject something fresh and unpredictable into the MCU. As Marvel embraces multiverse storytelling and explores more mature themes, Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool stands ready to thrive in this evolving landscape. Moreover, his ability to poke fun at superhero tropes keeps the genre feeling fresh. As a result, Deadpool could play a vital role in reshaping how Marvel approaches future storytelling.

Deadpool’s Future Is Just Beginning

Marvel isn’t done with Deadpool—and fans should be thrilled. With Kevin Feige confirming that discussions are ongoing, it’s clear that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has a long road ahead in the MCU. Whether it’s in the next Avengers film, a multiverse team-up, or a solo outing, the Merc with a Mouth isn’t saying goodbye anytime soon.
He’s become one of the most beloved characters in Marvel’s lineup, thanks to Reynolds’ sharp performance and the franchise’s bold, R-rated style. Deadpool’s irreverent tone offers a refreshing break from traditional MCU storytelling. As the franchise evolves, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is positioned to lead a new wave of mature, genre-bending superhero films.
