Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Venom: Latest Update Dims Hopes for Tom Hardy’s MCU Return!

Venom fans hoping to see Tom Hardy reprise his role in the MCU might need to temper their expectations. Hardy portrayed Eddie Brock/Venom in all three of Sony Pictures’ Venom films. These movies belong to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and are not part of the MCU. However, Brock did make a brief appearance in the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. This happened during the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Is Eddie Brock Returning to the MCU?

Although Venom seemingly met his end in Venom: The Last Dance, speculation about Hardy’s return has remained persistent. Currently, there are no confirmed plans to continue Sony’s Spider-Man Universe following Spider-Noir. Therefore, if the character were to appear again, he would likely need to transition permanently into the MCU.

However, according to scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, fans should not get their hopes up. When asked about the matter on Twitter, Perez wrote,

“Not in the cards anymore from what I understand. While the symbiote will continue to have a presence post BND, it’ll eventually seek out a new host.”

This suggests that although the symbiote may appear in future MCU-related projects, Hardy himself may not return to reprise the role.

This update has sparked mixed reactions among fans. While some fans feel disappointed, others eagerly watch as the symbiote seeks a new host, potentially creating fresh storylines and surprising character dynamics in upcoming MCU films.

Venom Symbiote’s Future in the MCU

The Venom symbiote’s appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Spider-Man 4) has not yet been officially confirmed by Marvel or Sony. Plot details remain under wraps, which adds to the uncertainty. Nonetheless, fans are buzzing with speculation. Actor Michael Mando, who plays Scorpion, has teased on Instagram that the symbiote might appear in the film. Additionally, some comic readers believe that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker could bond with the Venom symbiote in Avengers: Secret Wars, reflecting the origins of Spider-Man’s black suit from the original Secret Wars crossover series.

Interestingly, the Sacred Timeline still contains a fragment of Venom after the symbiote returned to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. This opens the door for Marvel Studios to feature the symbiote without involving Hardy directly. It’s also worth noting that Hardy voiced Venom in previous movies (Brad Venable provides additional voiceover), so any future symbiote appearances with dialogue may require recasting the role.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Tom Hardy’s return to the MCU seems increasingly unlikely. However, fans can still look forward to the symbiote appearing in upcoming Marvel projects, keeping the spirit of Venom alive in exciting new ways. Whether the symbiote bonds with a new host or appears through surprising crossover events, it will likely remain a key player in the MCU. Its iconic status endures, leaving audiences eager for what comes next.
