Tom Holland has revealed that Spider-Man 4 will feature a brand-new homemade suit. It pays tribute to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s iconic Spider-Man designs. Drawing inspiration from his multiversal counterparts, Holland explained that the suit honors the legacy of the previous Spider-Men. At the same time, it adds a unique MCU twist. This homage reflects the broader theme of Spider-Man 4. The film balances nostalgia with innovation, giving long-time fans subtle nods while introducing fresh storytelling for a new generation.
Spider-Man 4 Honors Iconic Spider-Man Suits
In an interview with Complex, Holland explained that his MCU Peter Parker looked up to his “big brothers” after the multiversal team-up in No Way Home.
“I think the third movie was very much about paying respect to those guys. I really like the idea that he’s trying to be his big brothers, that he looks up to them, and he sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool, and now that he is making his own suit and isn’t part of this bigger team.”
Key homages in Spider-Man 4 include:
- Raised webbing similar to Maguire and Garfield’s suits.
- A larger, more prominent spider symbol.
- Classic comic-book aesthetics contrasting Holland’s previous Stark-tech suits.
These design choices honor past iterations and highlight Holland’s growth as Spider-Man. They make him a more independent hero while still respecting his predecessors.
A Practical and Flexible Design
Holland also praised the suit’s practicality and comfort, which allow him to explore new dimensions of the character:
“This is a lot comfier than anything I’ve worn in the past. The new suit is really designed in a completely different way to the previous iterations. It’s a lot more flexible, so we can kind of lean into different sides of the character that I haven’t been able to before. And I am absolutely over the moon with how it’s photographing.”
The flexible design is not only visually impressive but also enhances Holland’s performance, enabling more dynamic action sequences and a deeper portrayal of Peter Parker’s personal growth.
Multiversal Legacy and Future Rumors
While Brand New Day (July 31, 2026) will focus on street-level storytelling, Holland hinted at the emotional weight of the previous Spider-Men’s legacy. Though Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are unlikely to appear in this installment, rumors suggest they could return in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) for another multiversal crossover.
This approach allows Spider-Man 4 to explore both legacy and innovation, connecting past Spider-Man films while preparing audiences for the larger multiversal narrative in upcoming MCU projects. Fans can expect nods to previous Spider-Men throughout the movie, creating emotional resonance and continuity across the Spider-Man franchise. In addition to the suit homage, Spider-Man 4 will explore Peter Parker’s personal life, balancing street-level heroics with everyday struggles. The film blends nostalgia, practicality, and innovation, honoring past Spider-Men while advancing the MCU story.
