Anticipation for Spider-Man 4 continues to rise, as new reports suggest the film could introduce a never-before-seen version of the Hulk. While Marvel Studios has not revealed official story details, recent leaks are already giving fans plenty to discuss.
Spider-Man 4 Could Feature an Unexpected Team-Up
According to insider DanielRPK, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man may team up with The Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Together, they could face the Grey Hulk, also known as Joe Fixit.
If accurate, this would mark the first time this Hulk variant appears in the MCU. Previously, audiences only encountered the Savage Hulk in The Avengers and the Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame. As a result, the inclusion of Grey Hulk would signal a major shift in how Marvel portrays Bruce Banner’s internal struggle.
Grey Hulk and Joe Fixit Explained
The Grey Hulk first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1, when Bruce Banner transformed into a grey-skinned Hulk following gamma radiation exposure. This version was more cunning, less powerful, and far more aggressive than the green Hulk fans know today.
Interestingly, this color change was originally unintentional. Stan Lee initially envisioned the Hulk as grey. However, printing limitations led Marvel to adopt green as the character’s signature color.
Years later, Marvel officially brought back the Grey Hulk through the Joe Fixit persona in The Incredible Hulk #324, revealing him as a separate personality within Bruce Banner’s fractured mind.
Why Grey Hulk Fits Spider-Man 4’s Rumored Tone
The Grey Hulk’s street-level, crime-focused stories align well with Spider-Man’s grounded world. Unlike the planet-smashing threats seen in Avengers films, Joe Fixit often operates in urban environments, making him a more personal and dangerous antagonist.
Additionally, pairing Spider-Man with The Punisher suggests a darker tone. This could allow the film to explore moral conflict, responsibility, and the cost of vigilantism—key themes that fit Spider-Man’s character arc.
Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk Role Remains Unclear in Spider-Man 4
While Mark Ruffalo is expected to return, Marvel Studios has not confirmed which Hulk personality he will portray. There is also speculation that the film could feature multiple Hulk personas, potentially setting up future MCU stories involving Banner’s fractured psyche. Until Marvel provides official confirmation, these details remain purely speculative.
One detail is confirmed. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026. Until then, fans will continue analyzing every rumor and leak. Still, the potential introduction of Grey Hulk alone is enough to make Spider-Man 4 one of the MCU’s most anticipated upcoming films.
