Marvel Studios officially confirmed that Jessica Jones will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a top executive promises fans “very cool surprises.” After years of speculation and rumors, Krysten Ritter will reprise her role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Notably, this marks Jessica Jones’ first on-screen appearance in nearly seven years. Because of that long absence, her return feels especially important for fans of Marvel’s former Netflix universe.
Jessica Jones Returns in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, recently spoke about Jessica Jones’ MCU return on The Official Marvel Podcast. During the discussion, he emphasized how much time has passed since viewers last saw the character.
“What’s really fun about that character is the time jump from the last time we saw her. It’s been a while,” Winderbaum explained.
Daredevil: Born Again will reintroduce the character, helping new viewers connect while rewarding longtime fans.
Marvel Teases “Very Cool Surprises” for Jessica Jones
According to Winderbaum, Marvel Studios is carefully reestablishing Jessica Jones within the MCU. Instead of ignoring her past, the show will explore how she has changed over time.
“So, we’re reestablishing this character and catching the audience up to what the hell she’s been up to,” he said. “That is filled with a lot of very cool surprises.”
Because of this, fans can expect character-driven storytelling rather than simple fan service. In other words, Jessica Jones’ return will actually move the MCU forward.
Where Jessica Jones Fits in the MCU Timeline
Within the MCU timeline, Jessica Jones Season 1 took place in 2015, while the third and final season ended in 2018, shortly before Avengers: Infinity War. Meanwhile, the story of Daredevil: Born Again takes place primarily in 2026.
Nearly eight years have passed since her last appearance, allowing the show to fully explore how both the world and the character herself have changed.
One of the most pressing questions is whether Jessica Jones was snapped away by Thanos or survived the five-year Blip. If she lived through it, those events may have deeply affected her personality and outlook on life. On the other hand, if she was erased and later returned, the experience could still shape her emotional journey in Daredevil: Born Again. Either option offers strong storytelling potential.
What Happened to Trish Walker After Season 3?
Another major unresolved storyline focuses on Jessica’s adoptive sister, Trish Walker, also known as Hellcat. At the end of Season 3, authorities sent Trish to The Raft, a high-security prison that currently holds dangerous figures like Zemo and the Leader.
As a result, fans are wondering whether Trish has served her sentence, escaped, or possibly returned to Jessica’s life. Her status could play a key role in Jessica Jones’ emotional arc.
Fans are most excited about a potential reunion between Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter. In the Marvel Comics, the couple eventually has a daughter named Danielle.
Introducing Danielle into the MCU would create a shocking twist. It would also give the character new responsibilities and emotional depth that mainstream audiences might not expect.
Krysten Ritter has already hinted that she has spoken with Marvel Studios about future plans for Jessica Jones. Because of this, her appearance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 may be setting up something bigger. Ultimately, what happens next could lead to additional appearances, crossovers, or even a full revival of Jessica Jones. Either way, her MCU future looks brighter than ever.
